Black Public Media (BPM) has awarded a total of $225,000 in funding to three creative teams who competed at its PitchBLACK Forum, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday. The Raymond F. TFANA will present Alice Childress’s Wedding Band. Director Awoye Timpo’s new staging, running April 23–May 15, brings Childress’s masterpiece to New York audiences for the first time since 1972, when it made its New York premiere in a production directed by Childress and Joseph Papp.

Los Angeles-based classical pianist and composer-turned-songwriter, vocalist, music producer and DJ Lauren Mia follows up the release of her joint endeavor with German duo Stil & Bense “Existence” with her first release of 2022. “Ohm” is an ethereal, melodic techno voyage that is slated for release via Luna Semara’s record imprint Petit Matin.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will complete its coast-to-coast North American tour at NJPAC Friday-Sunday, May 6-8, 2022. Ailey’s dancers will move audiences in a program celebrating Artistic Director Robert Battle’s 10th anniversary, along with a diverse repertory of premieres, timeless favorites, and Ailey’s American masterpiece Revelations.
