On this day, we celebrate the life and legacy of legendary Broadway choreographer and director, Michael Bennett, who passed away from complications from AIDS on this day in 1987.

Ben Mingay and Lucy Durack will play the lead roles of Shrek and Princess Fiona in the lavish and fun multi-million dollar musical comedy SHREK THE MUSICAL, Australia's leading theatre producer John Frost announced today. It was also announced that Australian musical royalty Marcia Hines would play the role of the Dragon in a special guest appearance for the Sydney season. The Broadway smash hit SHREK THE MUSICAL will open at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star in early January 2020, followed by seasons at Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne from February and at the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane following.

Grammy Award-nominated folk-rock singer-songwriter Steve Forbert brings his band, the New Renditions, and his distinctive folk-rock sound to Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, July 18, at 8pm. Best known for hit songs 'Romeo's Tune' and 'Goin' Down to Laurel,' Forbert was touted as a 'new Dylan' when he burst upon the scene in downtown New York in the mid-1970s.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Amnesty International UK and comedy star Deborah Frances-White of hit podcast The Guilty Feminist are delighted to be launching a brand-new Secret Policeman's Tour with three shows to hit the road throughout 2019 - the first being at London's Hackney Empire on Wednesday 5th June.

Opening on Wednesday, May 22 and running through June 16, Ivoryton Playhouse presents the beautiful and uplifting musical, GODSPELL.  GODSPELL began as John Michael Tebelak's master thesis at Carnegie Mellon University with lyrics taken directly from the Episcopal Hymnal. Stephen Schwartz, also from Carnegie Mellon, was hired to write a new score, adding original songs to the modernized hymns.

Second Stage Theater has announced complete casting for the Broadway production of Tracy Letts's Linda Vista. The Broadway community mourns the loss of veteran General Manager, Producer and 2017 Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre recipient Alan Wasser, who passed away on April 14, 2019 at age 70. To commemorate his life and work, the Committee of Theatre Owners will dim the lights of the Majestic, Marquis and St. James Theatres in New York for one minute on Monday, May 20 at exactly 6:45pm.

The 29th annual Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival (Inside Out), championing innovative LGBTQ filmmakers from across the globe, revealed its full feature and short film lineup. The announcement was made today by Inside Out's Executive Director Andria Wilson and the festival's Director of Programming Andrew Murphy. Inside Out, which launched the first ever annual LGBTQ Film Finance Forum, has established itself as an international home and incubator for LGBTQ emerging and established filmmakers. This year's festival will take place May 23 to June 2, 2019.

National Youth Music Theatre and The Other Palace have announced the NYMT's 2019 summer season, which continues the NYMT's annual residency at The Other Palace for a third consecutive year and demonstrates their shared commitment to provide exceptional opportunities for young people in musical theatre.

National Dance Institute (NDI), the non-profit arts education organization founded in 1976 by legendary New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d'Amboise, hosted its 43rd Annual Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The annual event, which is NDI's largest fundraising event of the year, annually raises $1.5 million with all proceeds benefitting NDI's award-winning arts education programs.
