Caribbean Cultural Center Presents THE ART OF JUSTICE 9: DECOLONIZING PLACES

The Caribbean Cultural Center invites the public to the 9th annual Art of Justice on May 15th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for an open strategic discussion with Arlene Davila, Nitasha Dhillion, Shellyne Rodriguez, and Marz Saffore to address the issue: Decolonizing Places l Theirs and Ours. The Art of Justice is an interactive conference series on the intersections of art, activism, and cultural equity. CCCADI is  located at 120 East 125th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues. Toronto LGBT Film Festival, Inside Out, Announces Lineup

The 29th annual Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival (Inside Out), championing innovative LGBTQ filmmakers from across the globe, revealed its full feature and short film lineup. The announcement was made today by Inside Out's Executive Director Andria Wilson and the festival's Director of Programming Andrew Murphy. Inside Out, which launched the first ever annual LGBTQ Film Finance Forum, has established itself as an international home and incubator for LGBTQ emerging and established filmmakers. This year's festival will take place May 23 to June 2, 2019.

GODSPELL Returns to The Ivoryton Playhouse

Opening on Wednesday, May 22 and running through June 16, Ivoryton Playhouse presents the beautiful and uplifting musical, GODSPELL.  GODSPELL began as John Michael Tebelak's master thesis at Carnegie Mellon University with lyrics taken directly from the Episcopal Hymnal. Stephen Schwartz, also from Carnegie Mellon, was hired to write a new score, adding original songs to the modernized hymns.

Mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at RTI, this uniquely intimate performance captures Taylor at his best—paired only with his guitar, drum machine and esteemed keyboardist Larry Goldings (John Mayer, Sia, John Scofield) plus pre-recorded accompaniment of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus on “My Traveling Star” and “Shower The People.” Full of his signature wit and warmth, Taylor's anecdotes—interspersed throughout the evening—offer background on some of his most popular songs.

Light In The Attic opens a new door to Japan's vast musical legacy with an expertly compiled overview of Japan's City Pop genre, Pacific Breeze: Japanese City Pop, AOR & Boogie 1976-1986. The latest installment in their Japan Archival Series collects tracks ranging from silky smooth grooves to innovative techno pop bangers and everything in between. Long-revered by crate diggers and adventurous music heads, these tracks have never been officially released outside of Japan until now. Including key artists like Taeko Ohnuki, Haruomi Hosono, and Minako Yoshida, as well as cult favorites Hitomi Tohyama and Hiroshi Sato, the long-awaited release also features newly commissioned cover painting by Tokyo-based artist Hiroshi Nagai, whose iconic images of resort living have graced the covers of many classic City Pop albums of the 1980s.
