Today’s subject Talia Suskauer is currently living her theatre life on tour playing the role of Lucille Frank in the Jason Robert Brown/Alfred Uhry modern day musical theatre masterwork Parade. The tour will make it’s final stop in the Eisenhower Theater at Kennedy Center from August 19th to September 7th.

Overall, A BEAUTIFUL NOISE—now on stage at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through August 10, 2025—comes off as guaranteed musical candy for Neil Diamond devotees, thanks to its current form as a polished, tidy, nostalgia-baiting jukebox musical loaded with familiar hits, sprinkles of sparkle, and enough vocal authenticity to make fans of his music swoon. The impressive performances—from the lead vocals to the 'Beautiful Noise' ensemble's hypnotic, lyrical dance moves—bring a measurable level of enjoyment. But as a deep-dive drama? It's, well… just fine. The show's narrative stakes are satisfactory, but a bit paper-thin. While certainly clever in concept, the book often sacrifices real, emotional complexity for palatable, crowd-pleasing moments, and this therapy-session-as-framing-device never truly develops into the kind of character exploration one hopes for in a definitive bio-musical.

What did our critic think of GYPSY: A MUSICAL FABLE at Music Theatre Wichita At Century II Concert Hall? There is a reason the musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable is a Golden Age classic. The text, suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and written by Authur Laurents, is economical and succinct. Jule Styne’s music varies from catchy tunes to lush, foreboding orchestral maneuvers, and Sondheim’s nascent lyrics are simple and accessible, yet cut to the core of each scene’s objective.

I love it whenever they take real strong women from history and infuse them into these musicals because it keeps their spirit alive and it lets us know what an amazing part these women played in the history of these great events.

Summertime is the best time to transport yourself into a nostalgic world as Freeform celebrates “30 Days of Disney” with legendary Disney films starting June 1. The programming event will feature the world television premiere of Disney-Pixar’s animated film “Lightyear.” Other Freeform premieres include Disney-Pixar’s “Soul” and Disney Animation’s “Fantasia” (1940 and 2000).
