THE SPOTLIGHT SERIES, a bi-monthly livestreamed concert series created by A LITTLE NEW MUSIC will “spotlight” the catchy music of composer/lyricist team, Meinwald & Leary, on June 15th. The evening will be co-hosted by ALNM co-producers Luke H. Klipp and Kila Packett. The ALNM Spotlight Series is produced by Amy Francis Schott.

Michael Ritchie announced that he will retire as Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group on December 31, 2021. Having taken over the position from Founding Artistic Director Gordon Davidson in January, 2005, for more than 16 years, Ritchie has led one of the country’s largest nonprofit regional theatres, producing and presenting 266 productions.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its 2021–2022 Theater season featuring hit Broadway musicals, acclaimed plays, Kennedy Center productions, special programming for the Center’s 50th Anniversary, and more, beginning in October 2021.

Earlier this week, I was able to go to my first musical performance in over a year. Now that restrictions are slowly being lifted and things are starting to look up for the future of theatre all over the country, I have compiled a few of the next shows I want to see professionally.

The virtual edition of Broadway Backwards delivered an emotional and exuberant evening of performances and raised a record $749,555 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center.

WTF Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield’s choice to revive PARADISE BLUE is another of many highly relevant selections given prevailing racial tensions.  It also demonstrates that a new play, 'born' at Williamstown, that the New York Times suggested was “unlikely to be final” in its form can evolve and overcome challenges. 

March 27 marks World Theatre Day! Although we can't be together to celebrate, we can still reminisce on the fun of theatre in our lives.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

This limited-edition vinyl set of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND  includes a special album insert with photos from the Broadway production and full billing, plus a gatefold cover, complete with show artwork, track list, album notes and additional production photos.    

The series is based on the popular New York Times column. Season two is scheduled to premiere later this year.

Rhymes Over Beats Hip Hop Theater Collective is premiering its third new play for Black History Month, Rodney Hick’s MS. PEARL’S CABARET, as part of CreateTheater’s Monday Night Reading Series on Monday, February 22 at 7PM/EST, 4PM/PST. This Zoom reading is directed by DeMone Seraphin. The reading will  stay available to the public until Friday, February 26.
