 Pittsburgh Public Theater has announced the full cast and creative team of its upcoming world premiere musical Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For, starring Darius de Haas as legendary jazz composer Billy Strayhorn.

Delightfully charming but also now slightly dated, MTW's expectedly family-friendly, colorfully saturated production is indeed a lovely, mostly entertaining stage recreation of the movie classic. But curiously, at times, the show feels subdued and tamed-down, and in dire need of an extra jolt of energy to match the story’s wildly madcap, campy premise.

Additional casting has been revealed for the symphonic world premiere of RENT in Concert at the Kennedy Center, taking place next month. Jordan Donica will play Collins with Awa Sal Secka as Joanne.

Tony and Oscar winning actor Alan Arkin has passed away at the age of 89. Arkin won a Tony for his performance in Enter Laughing and was nominated for his work in The Sunshine Boys. Arkin won an Oscar for his performance in Little Miss Sunshine.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, I had the excellent opportunity to sit down with Eric Sciotto, Director and Choreographer of Rock of Ages at MTWichita, and Brian J. Marcum, Artistic Director at MTWichita. It was a wide ranging interview, with a very stream of consciousness feel, and they were gracious enough to grant me an hour over a lunch break during rehearsal last Tuesday. The energy was high, and I was able to get some excellent insight into Eric’s choreographic process. I also spoke to Brian about leading MTWichita into a new era.
