Written by Bambi Everson ('Neither Here Nor There', and others), this charming play follows the trials and tribulations of an innocent young angel-in-training assigned the task of improving the life of a surly malcontent. Raucous and irreverent, whilst at its center sweet and even uplifting, the show was first performed at the Broadway Comedy Club under the original title 'OMG!'. As it transitions to The Producer's Club it will take on its new title, just in time for an early December run.

Dave Malloy's staged song cycle GHOST QUARTET is a madcap romp through seven centuries of mythology, folk tales, gothic horror stories, murder ballads, and more. Described in the lyrics as a 'circular story,' the nonlinear plot follows four friends through interweaving stories that include two sisters in a murderous love triangle, a modern-day subway platform homicide, and retellings of Arabian Nights and Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. Malloy's musical influences are as eclectic as his literary sources, and fans will recognize many of the styles present in his best-known work, the Tony Award-winning NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812.

When bookwriter Chris D'Arienzo's 1980s hair-band tuner Rock of Ages moved from Off-Broadway's New World Stages to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April of 2009 - with a score made up of rock classics by Journey, Styx, Asia, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Foreigner and a bunch of others - it was, to this reviewer's recollection, the first Broadway jukebox musical to acknowledge the silliness of jamming hit songs into an unrelated story.

Vevo announces the release of Carly Rae Jepsen's live performance of 'Too Much' from her new album, Dedicated. After Jepsen released her critically acclaimed album E·MO·TION in 2015, it became 'a modern touchstone for a new crop of pop-leaning artists and legacy acts,' as NPR noted, adding that 'the blast radius of E*MO*TION is expansive.' The album also inspired an abundance of memes - extending the cultural cachet that Jepsen earned from the ubiquity of her Grammy-nominated blockbuster hit 'Call Me Maybe' (from her U.S debut album Kiss), which not only climbed to No. 1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries, sold over 20 million singles worldwide, and was certified Diamond in the U.S., but was referenced by everyone from former secretary-of-state Colin Powell to Cookie Monster.

When it comes to Tony Award snubbing, there are several artistic high crimes and misdemeanors. For instance, Fiorello! winning Best Musical over Gypsy, or the good Music Man besting the better West Side Story. Or how about this awful upset: Two Gentlemen of Verona (the since-forgotten musical) beating both Grease and Follies for the top honor. Perhaps worst of all is this: Even though A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM was Stephen Sondheim's first and most successful Broadway show as a composer and lyricist, and even though it would win six of its eight nominated Tony Awards in 1962-1963 (including Best Musical), Mr. Sondheim himself was not even nominated for his lyrics and score. A show that features some of the most beloved comic songs from the early 1960's--'Comedy Tonight,' 'Lovely,' and 'Everybody Ought to Have a Maid'--wasn't even nominated for these iconic numbers. (For the record, Oliver! won that year for Best Score.) Broadway's greatest composer would have to wait almost a decade to receive his first Tony Award.

Mamma Mia! 'Here we go again.' There is now another production in Central New York of this hit jukebox musical based on the songs of ABBA. This time around it is a delightful production at the picturesque Cortland Repertory Theatre in Preble, New York. For a musical that is repeatedly (sometimes too much) performed throughout the country, the Cortland Rep production, directed by Kerby Thompson, is quite fresh, powerful, and exciting.

““Midnight Choir' is a song I originally wrote with and for another artist, who had approached me to write for his record,” said Doe Paoro aka Sonia Kreitzer of her newest track. “He never used the song and I forgot about it, too. Almost three years later, I was on a long flight and going through old demos and the song came up. I felt touched by it and wanted to record it for myself. I remember when we wrote this song, it was in the golden hour, the lyrics came naturally …, and I wondered how something could be so melancholic and uplifting at the same time. I am starting to think these worlds are not so far apart.”
