Shattered Globe Theatre has announced its 2022-23 Season, currently underway with the Chicago premiere of STEW, Zora Howard’s Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Drama, directed by Malkia Stampley, playing through October 22, 2022 at Theater Wit.

Roll On! Productions in association with the Center for Nonprofit Advancement and Dasu Productions will present Roll On! A Gospel Musical, starring legendary Tony Award Winner and Grammy Award nominee, Melba Moore, at the THEARC Theater in Washington, DC for 21 shows, opening Sunday, October 9 until Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Sankofa African American Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre company located in Harrisburg, PA, announces its first annual production of BLACK NATIVITY, a gospel song-play, written by the acclaimed American poet and playwright Langston Hughes with music arranged by Aaron Robinson and additional musical arrangements by Cheryl Hawkins.

Since 1975, Black Theatre Troupe audiences have enjoyed BLACK NATIVITY, the legendary holiday event by Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes.

Black Arts MKE's beloved holiday musical returns for its seventh year with its biggest and best production to date. Black Nativity by Langston Hughes runs one weekend only - December 8-11, 2022, at the Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall, Marcus Center.

The complete cast for the Broadway premiere of Ohio State Murders by Adrienne Kennedy is now announced. Joining Emmy, Grammy, and Six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Tony Award nominee Bryce Pinkham, and Drama Desk nominee Lizan Mitchell.

​​​​​​​The Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project at The University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts and 150 Media Stream present Color in Motion, a dance film featuring Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, on view through November 16, 2022 at 150 N Riverside Plaza, a commercial space that showcases the work of local and international artists, bringing art to everyday life. 

Playhouse Square will welcome unique shows to its stages this December, spanning comedy, dance, music and theatrical performances and more. 

Bishop Arts Theatre will present its annual holiday production of Black Nativity inspired by Langston Hughes' hand-clapping, toe-tapping, finger-snapping retelling of the Christmas story. Black Nativity runs from December 1-18, 2022 for three consecutive weekends at Bishop Arts Theatre.

Black Nativity Durham, presented by Triangle Performance Ensemble, returns to the stage after being virtual for two years due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Bishop Arts Theatre will present its annual holiday favorite of Black Nativity inspired by Langston Hughes' hand-clapping, toe-tapping, finger-snapping retelling of the Christmas story December 1st through 18th. For Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe founding member Jnana Cooper, her life’s journey hasn’t always been smooth. But she has come out the other end stronger and, to celebrate, she will return to WBTT – where her professional artistic journey began – and perform in a special concert presentation on June 13 titled “Unbreakable: An Evening with Jnana Wilson Cooper.”

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will welcome back to its stage one of its most successful and popular young artists for a two-night engagement. Christopher Eisenberg, who started working with WBTT Founder/Artistic Director Nate Jacobs at the age of 8 and has gone on to be signed to major label deals, will present “Frank & Me” at WBTT on March 26 and 27, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

Jennifer Holliday, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning original star of Dreamgirls, appeared on Tamron Hall for a special performance of “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.' Holliday won a Grammy Award for the performance of the show-stopping Dreamgirls song and her Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Effie White. Watch the video!

Berkshire Theatre Group and Kate Maguire have announced casting for shows in BTG’s Early Summer 2022 Season. The full season will feature B.R.O.K.E.N code B.I.R.D switching, a world premiere play and recipient of an NEA Grants for Arts Projects Award and more.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe was recently awarded a grant of $25,000 from The Exchange, in support of its 2022-2023 theatre season of shows.

Black Arts MKE will present the third annual Milwaukee Black Theater Festival, returning to venues across the city from August 10-14. The week-long celebration of Black arts and culture features free and ticketed events throughout each day.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe recently received an Arts Appreciation Grant of $40,000 from Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere musical, Goddess. The musical stage production is conceived and directed by Saheem Ali, music and lyrics by Michael Thurber, and written by Jocelyn Bioh. Previews begin Saturday, August 13, and the show runs through Sunday, September 25.

Almanac Dance Circus Theatre has selected the first recipients of the BIPOC New Work Presentation Track. These works will be part of the second annual Cannonball, an independently run Fringe Hub of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Running September 1-30, including a week of performances before the start of Fringe, Cannonball features more than 300 performances of over 65 shows,  spanning circus, dance, theater, film, and more.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will present the ninth year of its annual Young Artist Program, through which Troupe members are able to showcase their talents with self-produced, one-person shows. WBTT's first Young Artist showcase of the 2021-2022 season features singer/dancer/actor Derric Gobourne Jr. in a presentation titled “SH!NE.” The showcase will take place Monday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Key Chorale will honor Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” on the 50th anniversary of her groundbreaking Grammy Award-winning album, 'Amazing Grace.' WBTT artists Matelyn Alicia and Naärai will join Key Chorale, along with its featured soloist, Amy Connours, for 'Grace: The Spirit of Aretha.'

Raven Theatre will conclude its 40th Anniversary Season with the Chicago premiere of The October Storm, by Joshua Allen, a follow up to Allen’s smash-hit The Last Pair of Earlies.
