by Cindy Marcolina - Sep 18, 2017

The first edition of The Stage Debut Awards was a success, and the red carpet turn-up was a grand and sparkling line of stars and stars-in-the-making. Dressed to the nines in suits, gowns, and make-up worthy of Hollywood's glitziest of nights and shrouded in the humbleness and grace that only belong to the theatre folk (well, most of them, anyway), actors, writers, composers, and directors walked with full hearts and starry eyes. BWW Interview: The Yodel, the Cry, the Catch, the Growl - Christine Mild Brings Patsy Cline to Life
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Jun 6, 2017

'It's all in the way she placed her voice. I like to call it the Kermit the Frog place - the soft palate at the back of the throat, and that's what activates the yodel, the catch, the cry, the growl which are the iconic hallmarks of her singing. Patsy Cline wasn't really a technical singer; this all just came naturally to her, but for me as an actress and technical singer who has to do the show eight times a week, I have to make sure I am singing in a healthy, safe way and understand how to make that happen. So if I place the voice right - if I place it in the 'Patsy place'- it all happens without trying.' (more...)

BWW Blog: Joscelyne Tamburri - A Finale at Beauty and the Beast
by Guest Blogger: Joscelyne Tamburri - Apr 28, 2017

Well, here we are; Our last week of CCPA 2016/17. Our opening week of shows went extremely well, with a few minor 'cringy' moments - as to be expected with live theatre - but in all, it was an incredibly successful week! These unexpected ended up adding humour to the show, like when Cogsworth goes to look up with the Beast and Lumiere and say 'look at the Rose, it's wilting at an alarming rate' (or something like that), and the rose has disappeared, forcing the actors to improv while tech figures out how to get the rose back up there. Or when Babette's shoe flies off her foot in the tango, and our actress plays it off beautifully. It's that moment when at first you freak out, but 10 minutes later, you're dying of laughter from it. And, like I said, we have a great cast who can play it off so the audience doesn't know it's unintentional. My dad even asked me if Gaston's fall into the Orchestra pit (intentional) was supposed to happen because it seemed so real and spontaneous. (more...)
