In a revival version never before staged on the West Coast, David Henry Hwang's audacious, Tony Award-winning M. BUTTERFLY - inspired by a bizarre true story of illusion, obsession and betrayal - will open at ArtsWest on January 24. Performances will run Thursday through Sunday until February 17.

The Art of Alzheimer's presents The Artist Within opening January 8, 2019 in Seattle City Hall's Lobby and Anne Focke Galleries. The opening reception on January 10 from 4-6pm and the exhibition that runs through March 6, 2019 are free to the public and presented in cooperation with the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, and Elderwise. Care providers, artists and their families will be at the opening reception to discuss the stories behind these 49 fascinating artworks created by seven persons living with Alzheimer's and other dementias.

Macha Theatre Works Presents SHEATHED

Macha Theatre Works presents the world premiere of Sheathed by local playwright Maggie Lee, directed by Amy Poisson. This original new play was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and will be a produced in association with Theatre Off Jackson (409 7th Ave. S.), with performances from March 8 - 23, 2019.
STG Announces Record Attendance Of More Than 1 Million

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) announces its highest-attended season to date with more than 1 million patrons attending more than 700 events during its 2017/2018 season - an increase in attendance of over 35% from STG's previous record (771,00 in 2015). Through this overwhelming support of its performances, programs, and special events, STG has also garnered a record single-season net surplus, which in turn will allow the organization to continue its mission to create enriching experiences in the arts, engage diverse communities, and steward historic theatres.

In the spring of 2019, Book-It Repertory Theatre (Book-It) presents acclaimed Seattle actress Gin Hammond's* inspiring, 28-character solo play, Returning the Bones. Based on the life of Hammond's aunt, Dr. Carolyn Beatrice Montier (aka "Bebe"), Returning the Bones brilliantly responds to one of life's most challenging questions: How do you choose between your country, your people, and yourself? A surprisingly comical story, Returning the Bones brings us into intimate contact with the luminaries of the day including President Lyndon B. Johnson, Eleanor Roosevelt, James Baldwin and Queen Elizabeth. Returning the Bones runs March 28-April 14, 2019 at The Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill.
Mickey Thomas Of Starship To Star In New Production Of ROCK OF AGES At The 5th Avenue Theatre; Full Casting Announced

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced that Mickey Thomas, the lead singer of Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship), will star as Dennis in its sensational new production of Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages is the '80s rock ballad blast that features the music of Styx, Joan Jett, Twisted Sister, and more. With Mickey Thomas as lead vocalist, Starship produced hits including "We Built This City" (which appears in the production), "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," and "Sara."

Casting Announced For Seattle Rep's LAST OF THE BOYS

Seattle Repertory Theatre today announced complete ensemble casting for its production of renowned Seattle playwright Steven Dietz's Last of the Boys, an emotional story of the Vietnam War's complex legacy. We meet Ben - he lives off-the-grid in his trailer in the California Central Valley, haunted by the memories of his service during the Vietnam War. His self-imposed exile is disrupted by the arrival of Ben's old war buddy, Jeeter, with his new girlfriend and her volatile mother in tow. Intimate, funny, and fierce, Last of the Boys delves into a veteran's struggle to understand his troubled past, which threatens to swallow him whole. Last of the Boys will be directed by Seattle Rep Artistic Director Braden Abraham and runs January 18 - February 10, 2019 (opening night is January 23) on the Bagley Wright stage. Comedian Taylor Williamson headlines this one-night-only comedy show at BPA with special guest, Dan Rosenberg. An actor and writer, Taylor Williamson is known for America's Got Talent (2006 - Runner Up), Last Comic Standing (2003), and Taylor Williamson: Please Like Me (2017). He has been seen on The Late Late Show, Comedy Central, and MTV. Williamson returns to perform in "America's Got Talent, The Champions," which premieres January 7 on NBC. In this spin-off of the summer hit, the top fifty acts of all time will compete to be declared the best of the best.

BPA Gallery Holds February First Friday Art Walk: 'Landscapes...'

Join us in the BPA Gallery February 1 for an artist reception and an enjoyable evening of art and friends. Marti Tumicki Gwaltney has always had a passion for landscape paintings and drawings, beginning with the 17th Century Dutch. She found west of Ireland - with its soft light, many farmlands, rock walls and castles - to be especially intriguing. From the photographs she took during her travels she later created paintings in her home studio. This exhibit continues throughout February at Bainbridge Performing Arts.
