THE WOMEN IN BLACK Haunts Seattle Rep This Month

Over eight million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most successful theatrical horror events ever staged - and it's coming to shock Seattle next month. In the village of Crythin Gifford, the wind howls across the moors and fog creeps mysteriously around the town spires. At the edge of the village's cemetery, young lawyer Arthur Kipps glimpses the figure of a woman, garbed all in black, and is drawn into Crythin's cursed and haunted history. Susan Hill's gothic ghost story, The Woman In Black, comes to spine- tingling life in this cunning stage adaptation by Stephen Mallatratt that has left London's West End theatre-goers enthralled for more than 30 years. Director Robin Herford recreates Mallatratt's original staging from the London West End for this American premiere of the West End Production, touring the U.S. for the first time.

Hailed by The Guardian as "a masterpiece" and "one of British theatre's biggest - and scariest - hits," The Woman In Black is London's long-running West End play and Seattle Rep's productions marks its first in the Pacific Northwest. Susan Hill's novel, The Woman in Black was originally published in 1983. Stephen Mallatratt adapted the book for the stage in 1987 as a holiday show at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, U.K. and the play ultimately transferred to London's West End in January 1989. In 2012, the by-then classic thriller was released as a major motion picture starring Daniel Radcliffe and soon became the highest grossing British horror film in 20 years.

The Woman in Black is among the most thrillingly spooky plays ever, and there is a special magic to theatre that requires little more than a story and actors to conjure this gripping tale before our eyes."

The Seattle Rep production of The Woman In Black will star Bradley Armacost as Arthur Kipps and Adam Wesley Brown as The Actor.
Bradley Armacost has worked extensively on stage, in film and television, and in voice-over throughout the country. Based in Chicago, he has received numerous Joseph Jefferson Awards and nominations for his stage work. Select credits include Oedipus Complex, The Zoo Story, The Trip To Bountiful, A Touch of the Poet, and Chicago Boys at Goodman Theatre; Playboy of the Western World, Maria Arndt, The Seafarer, and Faith Healer at Steppenwolf Theatre Company; and much more. Bradley is an Artistic Associate at Provision Theatre Company and Irish Theatre of Chicago. His TV credits include the Fox series "The Exorcist," "Empire," "Chicago Fire," "Mind Games," "Missing Persons," "Untouchables," and "Early Edition." Film credits include Patriot, Warren, The Company, Barbershop 2, Repetition, and Eight Men Out.
Adam Wesley Brown has been seen on Broadway in Once and has a full resume of regional credits including Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Book of Joseph, The Tempest, Julius Caesar, and Henry VIII at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre; Long Way Go Down at Jackalope Theatre (Jeff Award nomination); A Midsummer Night's Dream and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at Folger Theatre (Helen Hayes Award nomination); and more. His film credits include: Widows and Keith Urban: 30 Songs in 30 Days.
