Noveltease Theatre Takes You On A Literary Burlesque Adventure! Image

Noveltease Theatre (Noveltease) opens its inaugural season of literary burlesque with a new twist on an old story. ADVENTURE! Marvelous Tales of the Baron Munchausen is adapted from the 1785 book Baron Munchausen's Narrative of His Marvellous Travels and Campaigns in Russia by Rudolph Erich Raspe. Through a combination of theatrical text and original burlesque choreography, Noveltease takes you on a 90 minute adventure through some truly fantastic tales that must be seen to be believed.

In a series of episodic accounts of his larger-than-life tales, the Baron Munchausen seduces the listener to find reason at the core of fantasy and spectacle. With undersea lobster trees, fanciful flights atop cannonballs, dalliances with goddesses, and cherry tree-horned stags, the performing company of ADVENTURE! each take up the Baron's mantle to challenge the status quo by weaving unbelievable stories through burlesque dance.

ADVENTURE! will be performed on April 12 & 13 at The Auditorium at U-Heights, where Noveltease is a resident company in the U-Heights Theatre Alliance. Directed by Cheeky Diamondz and Tootsie Spangles (Deers, Annex Theatre), ADVENTURE! features Noveltease Core Company members Onyx Asili, Jesse Belle-Jones, Fosse Jack, Al Lykya, Trixie Paprika, Sailor St. Claire and Polly Wood. ADVENTURE! is adapted for the stage and choreographed by Fosse Jack, with lighting design by Angelo Domitri.

Noveltease emerges from a past history of collaboration between co-Artistic Directors Sailor St. Claire and Fosse Jack. After adapting Tennessee Williams memoirs and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, in addition to a few short burlesque ballets choreographed by Fosse Jack, the pair launched Noveltease Theatre as the first neo-burlesque company to focus solely on fully-scripted literary burlesque adaptations. Drawing on the historical format of scripted literary adaptations of 1880s burlesque, and infused with contemporary striptease choreography, Noveltease reworks the literary canon for contemporary audiences through feminist, queer, and sex-positive standpoints.

ADVENTURE! opens Noveltease's inaugural season "Fact, Fallacy, Fantasy," where reality and reverie converge through burlesque literature. As a new company dedicated to reviving and revising the art of literary burlesque for contemporary audiences, Noveltease's second production adapts Jane Austen's satirical burlesque of gothic romance, Northanger Abbey, with camp, jazz, and humor this fall on November 15 & 16.

Noveltease Theatre productions are suitable for persons aged 18+
