Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents Zakir Hussain's Masters of Percussion at The Moore Theatre on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 8pm. Under the direction of percussion legend Zakir Hussain, Masters of Percussion offers the audience an opportunity to experience the melodic and rhythmic traditional repertoire from both Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) as was as excursions exploring the frontier between traditional and contemporary, folk and classical music.

Hussain is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but have earned him worldwide fame.

Masters of Percussion performers include:
· Taufiq Queshi (percussion): Taufiq's trademark percussion style incorporates body and vocal percussion that create unique rhythmic motifs that span cultures.
· Ganesh & Kumaresh (violins): These brothers are best known for their spirited duo violin recitals that brim with novel surges of soul-stirring creativity soaked in classicism.
· Sabir Khan (sarangi):Sabir's technique on the sarangi displays tonal, melodic and rhythmic prowess achieved through years of learning and practice.
· Sridhar Parthasarathy (mridangam)After being the pupil of many master musicians since age six, Sridhar has become of master of the mridangam, accompanying several famous musicians throughout his career.
· Navin Sharma (dholak): Navin has performed the dholak in an array of music genres over his career, including jazz, fusion, pop, rock, ghazal and bhajan ensembles.
· The Motilal Dhakis (percussion and dance): Coming from eastern Bengal, these performers are keepers of a folk tradition that combines an active style of drumming with dance movements that celebrate the happy occasions in life.
