EDINBURGH 2023: Review: THE OXFORD REVUE WILL SEE YOU NOW, Just The Tonic at The Caves
by Mark Carnochan - August 25, 2023
The Oxford Revue, one of the most prestigious and well known student comedy groups in the UK, arguably rivaled only by The Cambridge Footlights when it comes to the alumni that has came from their hallowed halls, with the likes of Rowan Atkinson, Stewart Lee, Maggie Smith, Armando Iannucci and members of Monty Python being past members of the troupe. With such big boots to fill, one would expect an hour of tightly packed sketch comedy and laughs a-plenty. Unfortunately, audiences don't recieve much of either.

by Jo Caruana - August 25, 2023
The WTF moments come thick and fast in Colin Cloud’s EdFringe show After Dark, which ran until 21 August at glorious McEwan Hall.
EDINBURGH 2023: Review: SEANCE, Pleasance Dome, Potterrow Plaza, Container 2
by Kat Mokrynski - August 25, 2023
Have you ever used a Ouija Board to communicate with spirits? Even though I am on the fence on whether or not spirits exist in this world, I try to keep an open mind and have gone on several adventures to try to find ghosts. When I saw the description of DARKFIELD’s show, Séance, I was immediately drawn to the concept.
EDINBURGH 2023: Review: MAD RON: CRIME SCHOOL, Assembly George Square, The Box
by Kat Mokrynski - August 25, 2023
Mad Ron: Crime School had me laughing from start to finish and, even though it was mostly built on one-liners, flew by. I may not have learned a lot about how to commit crimes, but I certainly did have a fantastic night out!
EDINBURGH 2023: Review: CERTAIN DEATH AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS, ZOO Playground
by Katie Kirkpatrick - August 24, 2023
The world is going to end in 80 years and two couples are deciding whether it’s still a good idea to have children. And then one of the women falls for the other couple’s surrogate. Certain Death and Other Considerations has a stand-out premise, exploring the very real issue of eco-anxiety through a fun, apocalypse romantic drama. The execution of this premise, however, falls a little short.

EDINBURGH 2023: Review: SHOW ME YOUR TATTOO, The Stand's New Town Theatre
by L Gourley - August 24, 2023
Like tattoos, this show might fit the same format as others out there, but each one is entirely unique. This isn’t someone who has perfected a routine to perform on repeat, his witty remarks and off-the-cuff jokes are entirely in response to audience participation and this just shows off his natural ability to make anything funny.
EDINBURGH 2023: Review: 2020 THE MUSICAL, Underbelly, Bristo Square
by L Gourley - August 24, 2023
2020 The Musical manages to make the audience bizarrely nostalgic for a time everyone would rather forget, in a way that feels like healing. The humour was uproariously funny and the technical elements of the production were almost flawless.

Walking into Stamptown Comedy Night, you know you’re in for something . . . special.  The concept is simple, even if the actual execution is anything but. After a bad break-up from a six-year relationship, a plus-sized, gay, primary school teacher decides to sublet his flat to a buff Instagram model. Funny yet poignant, this solo-performed play tackles body image pressures, social media jealousy, and one man's journey to self-acceptance whilst navigating the toxic world of online dating. Fresh from its five-star, award-nominated run at VAULT Festival, Buff is a hilarious yet timely story about being plus-sized in the gay community. EDINBURGH 2023: Review: BEST IN CLASS, Laughing Horse @ The Three Sisters
by L Gourley - August 22, 2023
Shows like Best in Class cannot be celebrated enough. Growing up working class just forty minutes away from Scotland’s capital is enough to feel worlds apart; change needs to happen to address the social imbalance at arts festivals like the Fringe and open it up to fresh audiences and performers worldwide. Best in Class is wonderfully funny and a true celebration of working-class comedy in the UK and seeks to do just that.
EDINBURGH 2023: Review: I'M HAVING DISTRESSING THOUGHTS, TheSpace @ Surgeons Hall
by L Gourley - August 22, 2023
I’m Having Distressing Thoughts is a spectacularly funny look into the absurdity of the environments those in crisis are expected to navigate to recover, and a message of hope for when the Instagram quotes become downright nauseating.

EDINBURGH 2023: Review: THE OPERA DIVA'S BOUDOIR, TheSpace @ Niddry St – Studio
by Hannah Hirst Dunton - August 21, 2023
This operatic frolic through well-chosen tunes was introduced immediately as ‘silly’ by performer Tamara Stein, and silly it was: the baroness’s characterisation was overblown and full of charisma, and her tale was a melee of exaggerated emotional outbursts.
