The Old Globe Announces 2020 Summer Season

The Old Globe's 2020 Summer Season brings to Balboa Park an extraordinarily talented group of artists who will delight audiences with their unique takes on four great works of theatre. The season incudes a classic American musical, a new adaptation of a 20th century thriller, and two of Shakespeare's masterworks on our outdoor stage.
Play Created with San Diego LGBTQ+ Youth to Take the Stage at High Schools

At local high schools, young performers will take the stage to pull back the curtain on what life is like for young trans people here in San Diego. Created in collaboration with local LGBTQ+ youth, Danny's Story is a forum theatre play that will allow high schoolers in the audience to explore their own reactions to experiencing or observing transphobia. The predominately queer cast members, who make the choice to out themselves as part of the performance, will invite students to step into character roles and interact with the professional performers in order to consider different ways to address bigotry and bias in our community. 
San Diego Repertory Theatre Announces Return Of Hit Annual Holiday Concert

San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today the return of the popular annual holiday concert, Winter Schminter: A Chanukah & Winter Solstice Celebration. The concert, performed by Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival favorites Yale Strom & Hot Pstromi, will play the Lyceum Space theatre on Monday, December 23 at 8 p.m. Klezmer and folk music from around the world to celebrate the holiday season is sure to be fun for the whole family!

Write Out Loud - an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud for a live audience announces HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, on Tuesday, December 10th at the Old Town Theatre. Write Out Loud's annual holiday program is a unique collection of Christmas and Hanukkah stories and music. Write Out Loud Story Concerts bring literature to life - aloud - with rehearsed readings by professional actors. Each program explores specific themes by weaving a variety of stories, poems, and music, together into a literary tapestry. San Diego veteran actors Tom Andrew (Cygnet's IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE), Brittney M. Caldwell (Cygnet's THE VIRGIN TRIAL), Paul Maley (long time Lamb's Players performer), and Rachael Van Wormer (Write Out Loud's Associate Artistic Director), join Co-Founders Veronica Murphy and Walter Ritter to celebrate the joy, nostalgia and generosity of the season. A pre-show reception starts at 6:15pm with a 7:00pm curtain.
Nervous Theatre Brings Debut Touring Production Of THE MAIDS To San Diego

Nervous Theatre presents their debut touring production of Jean Genet's 1947 psychodrama, THE MAIDS. The production opens in San Diego at the Tenth Avenue Arts Center (January 10-12) followed by a weekend in Seattle at the Isaac Studio Theater (January 17-19) before heading to the historic Ellen Theatre in Bozeman, Montana (February 27, 28 and March 1).

The Old Globe's 22nd annual production of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! opens Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. The holiday musical will run through December 29 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Previews began November 10. The Grinch is directed by James Vásquez, with book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin. The original production of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was conceived and directed by Jack O'Brien with additional lyrics by Theodor S. Geisel, additional music by Albert Hague, and original choreography by John DeLuca.

The UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance presents Man In Love by Christina Anderson and directed by Stephen Buescher. Midwestern Metropolis during the Great Depression is severely segregated. If you're from 'The Spread' you are trying to survive another eviction notice, soup line, or night on the street. If you're from the segregated Black area called 'The Zoo' you are literally fighting for your life. The bodies of Black women are turning up dead all over the city. It's not even safe to stay inside. Christina Anderson's play Man in Love is about race, love, and terror, all living side by side.
