90th Mainstage Season Announced at Phoenix Theatre, Begins With NOISES OFF 8/25

Arizona Theatre Company's own Latino Playwriting Award-Winner, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity by Kristoffer Diaz, was honored as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The Pulitzer was awarded to Next to Normal, the Tony Award-winning rock musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

Arizona Theatre Company creates the most thrilling professional theatre in the Southwest in 2010-2011, with electric moments of pure beauty, magic and deeply felt emotion in a mix of comedy, drama, classics and musicals. The new season opens with the Southwest premiere of the musical BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS, about the journey of Hollywood goddess Ginger Rogers; followed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright August Wilson's MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM, directed by Lou Bellamy and starring renowned recording artist Jevetta Steele as Ma Rainey. ATC's new season follows with the Arizona premiere of WOODY GUTHRIE'S AMERICAN SONG, directed by ATC favorite Randal Myler, followed by the world premiere of Jeffrey Hatcher's TEN CHIMNEYS set at the legendary summer estate of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Neil Simon's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play LOST IN YONKERS continues ATC's AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories initiative for a fourth season; and a twelfth anniversary revival of audience favorite, THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, with the original ATC cast and designs. The 2010-2011 season also includes a limited engagement presentation of The Acting Company and Guthrie Theater's production of ROMEO AND JULIET.

The Scholarship Show has become an annual event, where over $3,000 was given away last year in prize money to visual art students. This venue allows Yavapai County high school students to display their creative talents. What a great way to see what the future holds for these artistic young people.

Tempe Little Theatre will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of The Tale of the Allergists Wife. The auditions will be held April 19 and 20 from 7:30-10:30PM. Callbacks will be April 21 at 7:30PM. The show requies 2 men and 3 women. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

With a book written by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, SWEET CHARITY will be directed for Tempe Little Theatre by Jeffrey Middleton.

From sagebrush to Sheriff Joe, from Green Valley to kokopelli - it's time to batten down the barrel cactus because The Second City is on their way to the Grand Canyon State to do a no-holds-barred world premiere comedy revue all about Arizona. THE SECOND CITY DOES ARIZONA is an original revue of comic sketches and songs aimed at skewering everything and everyone that is unique, ridiculous and wonderful about the land of rising temperatures and falling real estate. The Second City Does Arizona plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from April 3 through April 24. It continues its run in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater Center from April 29 through May 16.

Zanna, Don't! is now playing at Desert Stages through April 25, 2010. Zanna, Don't! is set in a world where homosexuality is the norm, and heterosexuals are considered an oddity. The town is called Heartsville, USA. All of the characters are homosexual, or so we think, until one bold student writes a musical about forbidden heterosexual attraction in the army, and the true, closeted desires of two of the cast members come to the surface. A world much like our own and the chaos that ensues when people love who they want to, gay or straight.

Phoenix Artistic Director Steven C. Anderson has produced a concert version of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Titanic and recruited 38 local performers to donate their performances to help raise funds for Phoenix's "at risk" residency program with Columbus City Schools. Phoenix artists and educators go into these schools and partner with teachers to mentor fourth graders considered "at risk of failure in the classroom" by engaging them to create plays based on core curriculum.
