Desert Rose Theatre Returns with SHAKESPEARE IN SHORTS, 10/21-11/6

The award-winning Desert Rose Theatre triumphantly returns to Mesa this fall with a duet of one-act plays inspired by William Shakespeare and directed by DRT founder, Katherine Stewart. The collection is being called ‘Shakespeare in Shorts' and features George Bernard Shaw's witty ‘Dark Lady of the Sonnets' and the totally irreverent ‘Roadhouse in Arden' by Philip Moeller.

Fountain Hills Youth Theater will be presenting WINNIE THE POOH, based on the classic A. A. Milne story, for one more weekend. Christopher Robin's 'fat little bear of very little brain' would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat 'a little something.' However, when friend Piglet gets roped into Kanga's household and Kanga starts bathing him (with soap!) and forcing down spoonfuls of 'Strengthening Medicine', Pooh flies to the rescue assisted by his friends Eeyore, Owl, and Rabbit, (along with Rabbit's countless relations). While Pooh's intentions are always the best, his passion for honey and condensed milk keeps getting him into trouble.

The great playwright August Wilson places this formidable artist at the center of a captivating drama of flamboyant personalities, professional jealousy, and shattered dreams. Directed by Lou Bellamy, MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from October 16 through November 6. It continues its run in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater Center from November 11 through November 28. The Tucson media sponsors for the 2010-2011 season are KGUN9, MIX-FM and Tucson Lifestyle. Fountain Hills Community Theater is proud to announce the opening of the spine-chilling play The Haunting of Hill House. The Haunting of Hill House is a study in mounting terror in which a small group of 'psychically receptive' people are brought together in Hill House, a brooding Victorian mansion known as a place of evil and 'contained ill will.' Led by the learned Dr. Montague, who is conducting research in paranormal phenomena, the visitors have come to probe the secrets of the old house and to draw forth the mysterious powers that it is alleged to possess-powers which have brought madness and death to those who have lived therein in the past.

Mesa Arts Center Presents 'Out to Lunch' Concerts, 10/28

Last year, thousands of patrons enjoyed free weekly concerts outdoors at Mesa Arts Center. On Thursday, Oct. 28, the Out to Lunch concert series returns for another season. These concerts will feature local artists playing a variety of music including 50's rock-n-roll, acoustic country, jazz and more. Break away from your computer screen, discover new music, and enjoy the weather and fresh air. Chairs and lawn seating are available, but guests are encouraged to bring stadium cushions and blankets. Cucina Di Vita, Italian deli will provide sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, antipasto plates, fresh lemonade, iced tea, coffee, and more onsite at Mesa Arts Center. Brown bags and picnic baskets are welcome and many of Downtown Mesa's unique restaurants offer convenient and appetizing take-out options. Out to Lunch concerts are FREE and open to the public.

Her bewitched subjects don't remember Halloween or candy, but one little girl remembers that she had a black cat who was banished from the kingdom along with all things black or scary. When our heroine goes on a quest to find her beloved kitty, she faces adventure and rediscovers the fun of Halloween.
