A STEADY RAIN Comes to Actors Theatre at Playhouse on the Park, Now thru Nov 10

Actors Theatre's anticipated return to Valley stages begins tonight, Oct. 25 with A Steady Rain that the Chicago Tribune described as 'a gritty, rich, thick, poetic and entirely gripping noir tale of two Chicago police officers whose inner need to serve and protect both consumes them and rips them apart.'
THE LION KING National Tour Opens at ASU Gammage Tonight

The Tempe return of Disney's THE LION KING opens tonight, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. at ASU Gammage for a limited engagement of four weeks through November 17. In Tempe, THE LION KING plays Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. "We are thrilled to have THE LION KING back in Tempe," said Colleen Jennings Roggensack, Executive Director of ASU Gammage. "There are still wonderful seats available, so be sure not to miss this show and create lasting memories with your family."

Created by an American-born playwright-director, Charles Marowitz, who has become one of the most celebrated figures in the modern British theatre, this diabolically clever (and frequently funny) play was first presented as part of the Olympic Arts Festival in Los Angeles. Illuminating aspects to the master sleuth's character heretofore ignored, the play is both true to the spirit of the original and a total fresh and absorbing theatrical excursion.

Based off the critically acclaimed novel, the play tells the story of young Tony Marez and his nurturing relationship with Ultima, a wise curandera who has come to stay with Tony and his family in the last year of her life. Throughout his time with Ultima, Tony delves into a spiritual transformation during cultural and societal changes in the American Southwest.
