THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE by Martin McDonagh will be directed by Jean Lippincott at the Prescott Center for the Arts. The show runs: February 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15, 2014 at 7:30; and February 9 & 16, 2014 at 2:00. Tickets are $12.00; general seating.
Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, this darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag, her manipulative aging mother, whose interference in Maureen's first and possibly final chance of a loving relationship leads inexorably towards the play's terrifying dénouement.
It was nominated for an Olivier Award as Best Play for the London production, and the 1998 Broadway production was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning four, for Best Leading Actress in a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play, Best Featured Actress in a Play and Best Direction of a Play.
