InVersion Theatre is excited to announce its upcoming production, SHEPARD/BECKETT, coming to Walnut Street Theatres Studio 5 this November.
SHEPARD/BECKETT is the third production from InVersion Theatre, which was founded in 2011 by Managing Director Johnny Lloyd and Artistic Director William Steinberger. SHEPARD/BECKETT is an evening of short plays by award-winning authors Sam Shepard and Samuel Beckett, curated by the InVersion team. The production will consist of Shepards Red Cross and Killers Head and Becketts Catastrophe and Footfalls. SHEPARD/BECKETT will explore themes of power and powerlessness, control and entrapment, and disintegration and liberation as the plays protagonists grapple with very real questions of how to live in this world.
Red Cross focuses on, Jim, a man seemingly in a psychiatric ward and his relationships with a fellow patient and staff maid, both of whom begin to infect Jims body and mind. Killers Head is a solo play featuring a cowboy forced to face his reckoning. In Catastrophe, a director and his assistant try to carve the perfect piece of art from a mysteriously silent protagonist. Footfalls tells the story of a woman and her elderly mother both beginning to fade into nothingness. By exploring all four shows in the same night, InVersion intends to create a production that allows for cross-pollination between the pieces while retaining each plays individual voice.
Director William Steinberger is aided by an ensemble of actors, each creating multiple roles over the course of the evening. The production features Will Thompson (Hazard County, Azuka Theatre; The Well, Quince Productions); Brian Ratcliffe (Hazard County, Azuka Theatre; Myths and Monsters, Philly Improv Theater); Hannah Gold (Microcrisis, InterAct Theatre Company); and Lizzie Spellman (Awesome Alliteration: The Magical Musical, BetaMale Productions).
SHEPARD/BECKETT will be presented in Walnut Street Theatres Studio 5 on November 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th at 8:00pm and November 11th and 18th at 2:00pm. Tickets are $15.00. Scenic Design by Sara Elger. Lighting Design by Rachel George. Costume Design by Violette Carb. Sound Design by Jake Hager. Dramaturgy by Rebecca LeVine.
