Today we rewind to 2013, for the second Broadway revival of William Inge's Picnic. Directed by Sam Gold, Picnic opened on January 13 at the American Airlines Theatre, where it ran for 49 performances

Westport Country Playhouse will stage the recent Off-Broadway hit, 'The Understudy,' a backstage comedy about a Hollywood action star rehearsing for a role on Broadway amid tensions with his understudy.  The cast includes Eric Bryant, Connecticut Critics Circle Award winner; Brett Dalton of ABC's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'; and Andrea Syglowski, award-winning actress. Running August 14 through September 1, the comedy is written by Theresa Rebeck, creator of NBC's show business drama, 'Smash,' and directed by David Kennedy, Westport Country Playhouse associate artistic director.

Today we celebrate the life and career of the late legend Elaine Stritch, who would have been 93 year-old today. 

With a career spanning seventy years in the theatre, Lucille Lortel's life mission was to help nurture emerging innovative playwrights.

You have to wonder why it took someone so long to bring Del Shores' The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife to the Nashville stage. After all, the play opened to widespread acclaim in Los Angeles in 2003 and was made into a movie in 2011 (Blues for Willadean).

TACT/The Actors Company Theatre presents Abundance, the 1990 play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart). An epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West, Abundance will be directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production ofWilliam Inge's Natural Affection. Performances began at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on February 17. Opening night is set for this Sunday, March 1, 2015. BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed the sad news today that Broadway legend Elaine Stritch died this morning, at home in Birmingham, MI. The star was 89 years old. As part of P.S. 212's First Grady Theatre Study focusing on the works of Stephen Sondheim, Elaine Stritch visited the Manhattan school's 'theatre babies' and performed 'Broadway Baby' for the rapt crowd of kiddos.
