Julia Louis-Dreyfus Receives the Mark Twain Prize for Humor

An outstanding lineup of entertainers gathered in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall to salute Julia Louis-Dreyfus, recipient of the 21st annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 21, 2018. The Prize, which is named to honor one of the world's greatest humorists, was presented at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy. The event was taped by WETA Washington, D.C. and will air nationally on PBS on November 19, 2018 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

On its 3rd night (Wednesday, 10/17/18) broadcasting from the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House, ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew to its highest-rated telecast of the week among Adults 18-49 (0.6/4) in the 25 LPM Markets, building by 50% over Tuesday (0.4/3) and by 20% over Monday (0.5/4). “Kimmel” grew over the week-ago night by 20% to score its top-rated Wednesday telecast in 9 months (excluding the one NBA Finals-led broadcast in June) – since 1/17/18.

NBC wins the night in total viewers, growing +1.9 million persons or +34% versus the same Wednesday last year (7.508 million vs. 5.616 million on Oct. 18, 2017).  NBC's margin of victory for the night was +1.7 million viewers or +30% (7.508 million vs. 5.909 million for #2 CBS).

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has won the late-night ratings week of Oct. 8-12 in the key adult 18-49 demographic, as well as total viewers, according to “live plus same day” figures from Nielsen Media Research.

JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! Sees Strongest Performance in Four Months

During the week of Oct. 8, 2018, ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew to new season highs, soaring over the prior week by double digits in Total Viewers (+19% - 2.234 million vs. 1.872 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 534,000 vs. 474,000). In fact, “Kimmel” scored 4-month highs in both Nielsen measures – since the week of 6/4/18. Excluding the two NBA Finals weeks in June, the ABC late-night program delivered its strongest performance since last spring in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 – since the weeks of 3/19/18 and 4/16/18, respectively.

The black-tie evening, which will also celebrate theater producer Fran Weissler for Visionary Leadership in American Theater, will take place on Monday, November 5, 2018 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in New York City at The Plaza (768 Fifth Avenue). NBC wins the night in total viewers, growing +1.9 million persons or +32% versus the same Wednesday last year (7.762 million vs. 5.885 million on Oct. 11, 2017).  NBC's margin of victory for the night was +1.9 million viewers or +31% (7.762 million vs. 5.909 million for #2 CBS). In 18-49, NBC finished #2 for the night among the Big 4, up from a year-ago #4 finish.

For the week ending Oct. 5, THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT posted an average of 3.18 million viewers, up +5% (from 3.04m) compared to Week #2 last year. THE LATE SHOW beat “The Tonight Show” in viewers (versus 2.13m, +49%) for the second consecutive week in the 2018-2019 season. Additionally, THE LATE SHOW beat “Tonight” by over +1 million viewers, up from +790,000 viewers in Week #1, and has delivered more than 3 million viewers for both weeks of the 2018-2019 television season.
