So, in no order (and with no clarity of categories), here are the BROADWAY WORLD HOUSTON CRITICS’ CHOICE awards for the 2025-2026 season! CHEERS!

A.D. Players will present the world premiere of CRIME AND PUNISHMENT: 2026, a contemporary stage adaptation written by Jayme McGhan. The production will be directed by Sophia Watt and staged at the George Theater in Houston.

This is easily one of Main Street Theater’s strongest offerings this year, and it is a show that is well-thought through and exquisitely paced. Sophia Watt achieves near nirvana balancing acting with design and execution in her direction. The School of Theatre & Dance at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts at the University of Houston has announced its 2022-23 season. Featuring 10 productions, the season promises to be one of the school's most ambitious in recent memory.

Rec Room Arts will present the Houston premiere of Hurricane Diane, Madeleine George's (Hulu's Only Murders in the Building) Obie Award-winning play that turns the Greek god Dionysus into Diane, a lesbian permaculture gardener whose secret mission is to save the planet from the ravages of climate change. Lily Wolff (Alley Theatre) will direct the production.

Rec Room Arts will begin the 2022 season with the Houston premiere of Dance Nation, Clare Barron's award-winning play about pre-teen competitive dancers and the burden of adolescence. Sophia Watt will direct the production, with choreography by Skye Bronfenbrenner. Preview performances begin January 20, with an official opening on Saturday, January 22. Performances will run through February 5.
