The Acting Company announces casting for its 44th consecutive season and national tour featuring two gripping dramas in repertory: the world premiere of, X: Or, Betty Shabazz v. The Nation and William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

Different Stages continues its 2016 - 2017 season with Carlo Goldoni's The Noisy Neighbors or Il Campiello. Written for the Venetian Carnival of 1756, Goldoni's comedy recounts the matrimonial scheming, gossip, and games enlivening the daily activity of a bustling but poor Venetian piazza where pandemonium reigns. The commedia-inspired play centers on four scrappy, hard-working, hard-playing families whose daily lives on a small square are interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious wealthy stranger during Carnival. 

Following its acclaimed success at the World Psychiatry International Congress and its once-off staging in December last year, respected psychiatrist Dr Sean Baumann's rousing cantata, MADNESS: SONGS OF HOPE AND DESPAIR, returns to the Baxter Theatre for a limited season this February.

The completely original new musical Something Rotten!, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award and Tony Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Tony Award nominees Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O'Farrell, launched its National Tour on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Boston Opera House. The fall 2016 season of /A•STIR/ which included development of five new musicals, wrapped this week. The mission of the /A•STIR/ is to introduce movement as a narrative tool to writers, composers, directors, and producers of projects in the early writing and development stages. 'Hard Rain: A Theatrical Protest' offered a workshop view of six new dramatic renderings of the American experience in this time of political turbulence. Commissioned and curated by John Blondell, this festival included short works inspired by the recent election. These early drafts functioned well as “think” pieces, and represent raw, immediate reactions to the cultures clashes lately highlighted by the presidential election.

A tribute from Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it's a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers' classics.

The ABC Television Network will air THE SOUND OF MUSIC, the Rodgers & Hammerstein cinematic treasure, TONIGHT, DECEMBER 18 (7:00-11:00 p.m. EST).

Burning Coal Theatre Company will present the southeastern premiere of Simon Stephens' Heisenberg, a comedy/drama about two mismatched souls who collide. The play will run January 19 - 21, 26-28  and  February 2 - 4, 2017 at 7:30 pm and January 22, 29 and February 5, 2017 at 2 pm at Burning Coal's Murphey School Auditorium, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.  Tickets are $25 regular admission or $20 for seniors (65+) or $15 for students, teachers and active military. Student Rush tickets at curtain time, if available, are $5 apiece.  The first Sunday, January 22nd, is Pay What You Can Day and will be Audio described by Arts Access.
