Last night six time MAC Award Winner Eric Michael Gillett ((Broadway's Sweet Smell of Success, Kiss Me Kate, The Frogs and Television's Quantico, Mysteries of Laura, Daredevil, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) returned to the stage at the Laurie Beechman Theatre with Stop This Train, his first new solo show in five years. Seen most recently as Paul Manafort on Showtime's The Loudest Voice, Gillett's Stop This Train is a wry and witty collections of songs and observations about navigating the aging process while trying to keep both your dignity and your mind intact. Featuring contemporary songwriters Dar Williams, David Yazbeck, Paul Gordon, Craig Carnelia, Peter Mills, Demi Lovato, and John Mayer, along with classic cabaret and musical theater composers Stephen Sondheim, Marvin Hamlisch, along with original songs by musical director Mike Pettry (Television's Documentary Now! This November, stars of stage and screen, playwrights, composers, and supporters of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will gather for And the Tony Award Goes Toa??Celebrating TheatreWorks at 50, a once-in-a-lifetime event honoring the acclaimed theatre company's 50th anniversary and its 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award. Established in Palo Alto in 1970, TheatreWorks has grown into one of the largest theatre companies in California, and one of the nation's leading presenters of new works. And the Tony Award Goes Toa??Celebrating TheatreWorks at 50 will take place Saturday, November 2 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro Street, Mountain View (preceded by a gala dinner at Mountain View's The Computer History Museum).

Lovers of new theatre will gather this August for an advance look at tomorrow's hits at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's 2019 New Works Festival at Palo Alto's Lucie Stern Theatre. This unique festival offers audiences an extraordinary opportunity to experience new plays and musicals in their early stages of development, and hear about the creative process in a "Meet the Artists" panel discussion. With multiple performances of each work, playwrights and composers are able to revise and refine their shows during the festival, allowing audiences to view the exciting evolution of brand new pieces of theatre. The popular festival runs August 9 - 18, 2019 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto. Broadway musicals "Beauty and the Beast" and "Jane Eyre The Musical" join Caryl Churchill's "Vinegar Tom," William Inge's "Picnic," Jen Silverman's "The Moors," Shakespeare's "As You Like It" and the Fall and Spring Dance Theatres on Cal State Fullerton's theatre and dance stages in 2019-2020. "Our department is proud to be a part of America's 'fifty percent women playwrights initiative for 2020' and we have worked to carefully balance our season between men and women playwrights," explains CSUF Theatre & Dance Chair David Mickey. "Theatre and dance are all about taking risks, accepting challenges, and creating opportunities and this highly engaging season will find us stretching for the stars both on-stage and off-stage," he added.
