Mike Stoller & Corky Hale present Josephine Beavers with live at The Catalina Jazz Club, May 25, 2022 at 7:00pm.

Singer Josephine Beavers, the Chicago vocalist who has been generating national press coverage for resuming her career in her middle years, will make her major West Coast debut at the Catalina Jazz Club on Wed., May 25 at 8:30 P.M.  She is being presented by Mike Stoller (of Leiber-Stoller) and his wife Corky Hale, and Corky will also make a special guest appearance.  Beavers will be accompanied on piano by her musical director, Ed Vodicka.

SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE will be directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Stephanie Pope Lofgren who was an original cast member of London’s West End production.  SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE plays from Tuesday, June 7 thru Sunday, June 19, 2022.

On Friday, October 1, 2021, I had the pleasure of returning to the ACT of CT in Ridgefield, CT, to see yet another amazing performance, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ, a phenomenal show featuring the legendary music of songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who were the writers of many of the greatest rock n’ roll songs of the 1950s, songs that to this day remain among the greatest of all-time.  The excellent direction and choreography of Stephanie Pope Lofgren enhances the quality of this production starring an extremely talented cast the includes Albert Guerzon, Arnold Harper II, Avionce Hoyles, Jordan Fife Hunt, Keyonna Knight, Courtney Long, Kelly MacMillan, and Juson Williams.  Whether collaborating in full ensemble numbers, harmonizing in smaller groups, or performing solo, every cast member truly shines in this production, through singing and dancing.  They furthermore have excellent stage chemistry with each other, both in terms of their synchronized dancing and harmonized singing.

If you want a high-energy show, Smokey Joe's Café is definitely for you. The musical revue, on Broadway from 1995-2000, highlights the music of songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The spectacle features their hit songs done back to back including 'Love Potion Number 9', 'Yakity Yak', 'Stand By Me' and 'Jailhouse Rock'. The Encore Musical Theatre kicks off a new season of mainstage musicals with the Broadway hit SMOKEY JOE'S CAFÉ. The longest-running revue in Broadway history, the show features a Grammy-winning score by hitmakers, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. You'll be dancing in your seat to such instantly recognizable tunes as On Broadway, Fools Fall in Love, Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Love Potion #9 and so many more.

Joining them will be musical director Michael Arrom, Lyman Medeiros on bass, John Ciodini on guitar, and Gene Coye and drums.

The John W. Engeman Theater has announced the cast and creative team for their upcoming production of Smokey Joe's Cafe. Performances begin on Thursday, September 16 and run through Sunday, October 31, 2021.
