PBS and The American Pops Orchestra will present BROADWAY’S LEADING MEN: A MUSICAL CELEBRATION, a special concert event celebrating the unforgettable male characters and beloved songs that have defined musical theater throughout the decades.

On Sept. 22, the woman behind the scintillating vocals to one of music’s most timeless and moving classics, “What the World Needs Now,” took the stage at Bell Theater in New Jersey with a stellar lineup of musical guests to perform the song live as a culmination of a namesake tribute concert that paid homage to her life and musical legacy.

Cheyenne Elliott was a preteen clad in a sparkly Limited Too garment when her grandmother, Dionne Warwick, called her up onstage for the first time. Flashback to the mid-2000s at an outdoor summer concert in the New York Metropolitan Area, the pair sang Warwick’s poignant classic, “That’s What Friends Are For.” Since its 1985 release, the song has resonated with generations, performed at grade-school graduations and played as background music to slideshows depicting precious kindergarten memories. 

Dionne Warwick will come to Bell Theater at Bell Works on Sunday, September 22 with a once-in-a-lifetime event in support of the Axelrod Performing Arts Center and Bell Theater’s cultural arts and education programs.

Featuring upbeat ensemble numbers, breathtaking ballads, and brand-new arrangements, HOW GREAT THOU ART: A SACRED CELEBRATION includes performances from the Godmother of Soul, R&B singer and actress Patti LaBelle (“Lady Marmalade”); Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth (Schmigadoon, Wicked); and more.

They’ve captured hearts in Hunter Foster’s “Bridges of Madison County” at Axelrod Performing Arts Center. Now, Kate Baldwin, a two-time Tony Award-nominated actress and singer, and major motion picture actor and singer Aaron Lazar are returning to the Deal, NJ stage tonight at 8 pm for a fundraising gala saluting Tinseltown and The Great White Way.

BROADWAY’S BRIGHTEST LIGHTS shines the spotlight on some of musical theatre's best and brightest talents. Curated and conducted by Luke Frazier, the concert features Tony Award-winning Broadway star Megan Hilty alongside Michael Maliakel, Nikki Renée Daniels, and Tommy Sutter with The American Pops Orchestra.

It would be hard to think of a Broadway pairing who are capable of such bravura singing and are so at ease in each other's company. The evening they have created is a casual party in cocktail attire. It feels like a throwback to the days of after-show supper clubs where the elite came to meet and mingle with mere mortals. Baldwin and Lazar do serious work with the lightest touch.
