Discovered by Paul Simon during his trip to South Africa to collaborate with South African musicians while recording “Graceland,” Ladysmith Black Mambazo is returning to the US for their first post-COVID tour, performing at The Ridgefield Playhouse on August 17, 2022, at 8:00pm as part of the HamletHub World Music Series.

German dance music visionary Henrik Schwarz has remixed the Ladysmith Black Mambazo track ‘Ayikh’ Indaw’ Enjengekhaya.’ This brand-new rework sees Schwarz reimagine the Ladysmith Black Mambazo sonic story, placing the sound in an electronic music context while remaining true and respectful to its original writer - Joseph Shabalala.

South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo was founded in the early 1960s by Joseph Shabalala, then a teenage farm boy living on the lands just outside the small town of Ladysmith, in the province of kwaZulu Natal, halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. Joseph used his hometown's name to honor his family's history. Joseph added to his group's name the word Black in reference to the black oxen, the strongest of all farm animals. Mambazo is the Zulu word for chopping axe, a symbol of the group's vocal ability to clear the path to success.

Following a sell-out run at London's Sadler's Wells and a phenomenal 2015 tour, INALA will return to the UK in 2019, bringing together the two-time Grammy Award-winning South African choral legends, Soweto Gospel Choir with multi-award-winning choreographer Mark Baldwin (OBE) in this unique artistic collaboration. INALA will receive its West End premiere at The Peacock in London playing from 29 April to 18 May, with a press night on Wednesday 1 May. 2019 tour dates will be announced shortly.

South Africa's world famous singing group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, return to Australia this July! Fresh off winning their fifth Grammy Award (most by any World Music group in Grammy Award history) and representing their country at the April 21st Commonwealth Celebration for Queen Elizabeth's 92nd Birthday in London, the group returns to Australia for concerts in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart, Tasmania!

Fresh on the heels of winning their fifth Grammy Award, Ladysmith Black Mambazo will perform at Kean Stage's Enlow Recital Hall on Friday, February 9.

On Feb. 2 at 8 p.m., multiple Grammy Award-winning and current double Grammy Award-nominated male vocal ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo will infuse the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts with its compelling blend of South African traditions and gospel sound.
