Anointed "South Africa's cultural ambassadors to the world" by Nelson Mandela, five-time Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has warmed the hearts of audiences worldwide with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves, and charming onstage banter for more than 50 years. South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo was founded in the early 1960s by Joseph Shabalala, then a teenage farm boy living on the lands just outside the small town of Ladysmith, in the province of kwaZulu Natal, halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. Joseph used his hometown's name to honor his family's history. Joseph added to his group's name the word Black in reference to the black oxen, the strongest of all farm animals. Mambazo is the Zulu word for chopping axe, a symbol of the group's vocal ability to clear the path to success.

Following a sell-out run at London's Sadler's Wells and a phenomenal 2015 tour, INALA will return to the UK in 2019, bringing together the two-time Grammy Award-winning South African choral legends, Soweto Gospel Choir with multi-award-winning choreographer Mark Baldwin (OBE) in this unique artistic collaboration. INALA will receive its West End premiere at The Peacock in London playing from 29 April to 18 May, with a press night on Wednesday 1 May. 2019 tour dates will be announced shortly.

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that South Africa's LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO, who has warmed the hearts of audience worldwide with their uplifting harmonies, signature dance moves and charming onstage banter, will perform for one night only at the historic State Theatre (805 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at 8 p.m. With a deep respect for both their cultural and personal history, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is ever-evolving with an eye toward their long musical legacy.

World Music Institute concludes the inaugural season of its Masters of African Music series on Friday, February 19 at 8:00 p.m. with South Africa's legendary all-male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, marking the group's first Town Hall performance in nearly a decade.
