Previews: LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS at Stageworks Theatre

On stage December 5–21 at Stageworks Theatre, Tampa actor and community leader Néstor Meléndez takes on the powerful one-man show Latin History for Morons. Written by John Leguizamo, the play blends sharp comedy with overlooked truths from 3,000 years of Latin American history. Meléndez calls the role “a cathartic journey,” adding, “My hope would be for [audiences] to see themselves or their families represented on stage and then decide to go and dig deeper into their history.” Expect an evening that is fast-paced, funny, and deeply resonant.

United Solo Concludes Fall 2025 Season With Closing Gala

United Solo, the world’s largest solo theatre festival, ended its nineteenth season with its annual Closing Gala at Theatre Row in Manhattan. This fall’s edition featured artists from around the world working across classical texts, contemporary narratives, performance art, and pieces exploring both intimate personal stories and global political themes.

Review: FREMONT AVE. at Arena Stage

The play Fremont Ave., which is now at the Kreeger Theater at the Arena Stage, is an interesting attempt to show the healing effects of intergenerational family bonds. The playwright, Reggie D. White, has attempted to convey a multitude of  themes and moods as affects the Plique family as they live their lives in a southern California  suburb from 1968 until the 2020’s. As the characters in the play confront their dreams, ambitions, and fears the audience reacted with such interactive yelling and talking back to the stage that the play certainly evoked much response –so much response that I was unable to hear the lines at many times.
