This morning, Film Independent announced the nominations for the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent's year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity in the industry. Film Independent President Josh Welsh presided over the press conference held at the W Hotel in Hollywood, with actors Gemma Chan and Molly Shannon presenting the nominations. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced today the presenters for the HFPA's Annual Grants Banquet, taking place at The Beverly Hilton on Aug. 9. Presenters will include Alfonso Cuaron, Alfre Woodard, Amber Heard, Charlize Theron, Chris Messina, Christian Slater, Cody Fern, Connie Britton, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Reitman, Jennifer Garner, Joey King, John Cho, John David Washington, Lena Waithe, Nia Long, Rami Malek, Regina King, and Steve Carell. The event marks the biggest charitable evening of the year for the HFPA as the organization makes donations and awards grants, amounting to more than $30 million over the past 25 years.
