Review: BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL at STAGES St. Louis is Some Kind of Wonderful

STAGES St. Louis production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is not only wonderfully nostalgic musically, but it is a richly entertaining evening of musical comedy. Director Jennifer Werner’s attention to detail creates an immensely enjoyable piece of period storytelling. The expressive and well-crafted performances of Brianna Kothari Barnes, Sean McGee, Kailey Boyle, and David Socolar skillfully tell the story of the two prolific songwriting teams whose music has stood the test of time.

Review: FUZZY at Barrington Stage Company

The eleven original songs are pleasant, reminiscent of pop / folk rock, and had my head nodding throughout. Equally as enjoyable to me as recent hits from Jason Robert Brown, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, or Sara Bareilles.  Another thing you should know is that fuzzy is not complicated or deeply thought provoking.  “fuzzy is an invitation to sit with other people and remember together that it’s alright to feel things”.  It is a darling maybe even adorable little piece of musical theatre, you will likely be glad you had the chance to experience.

Review: CATF's Production of THE HAPPIEST MAN ON EARTH a Brilliant Tale of a Remarkable Life

There is nothing in the world like a compelling, original story, well told.  And when the story is true, darkly and brilliantly real, it becomes absolutely indispensable. Playwright Mark St. Germain has plumbed the depths of the Holocaust to create a deeply moving one-man show, The Happiest Man on Earth. The journey veteran actor Kenneth Tigar takes us on is harrowing—but there is an epiphany, a moment, when the pain and anger and sorrow give way to pure joy.

Review: Come On Along to 42ND STREET at Broadway At Music Circus

Glamour, glitz, and gams galore! You’ll get this and more with 42nd Street, which opens up the 72nd Broadway at Music Circus season. This love letter to Broadway actually didn’t start there. It took over forty years after the film was released to be made into a Broadway musical. It made its debut at the Winter Garden Theatre in 1980 and won the 1981 Tony Award for Best Musical.
