Ariana DeBose appeared on CBS Mornings today to discuss hosting the 75th Annual Tony Awards. DeBose discussed her previous experiences as a Tony nominee, gave advice to this year's nominees, and teased how they will be honoring Broadway swings and understudies at this year's ceremony.

The teaser trailer features a star-studded lineup of Tony nominees, including Hugh Jackman, Rachel Dratch, Sutton Foster, Billy Crystal, Uzo Aduba, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, L Morgan Lee, Jesse Williams, Rob McClure, Myles Frost, and more.

Arthur Giron, playwright, passed away February 2, 2022. A memorial for Giron will be taking place at the Cherry Lane Theatre, Thursday, May 26 at noon, open to the public. 

Joining the previously announced David Harbour and Bill Pullman are Hanako Footman, Akiya Henry, Sinead Matthews, Charlie Oscar and Stephen Wight. Directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, the production opens on 26 June at the Ambassadors Theatre, with previews from 15 June, and runs until 4 September.

The 28th Annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (April 26-May 1) announced that Dale Dickey (A Love Song) will receive the King Vidor Award at next week’s film festival and Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) will be this year’s Spotlight Award honoree. Stacy Peralta’s The Yin and Yang of Gerry Lopez was also announced as the featured film for this year’s Surf Nite at the Drive-in.

Given the current events affecting our world, it is understandable that many of us seek an escape through theater and film. Due to the pandemic, the worlds of theater and film have begun to merge with Broadway artists and creators participating in their first major films, such as tick, tick… Boom and West Side Story. This past Sunday many of these films and artists received gratifying recognition at the Oscars Ceremony at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Gravitas Ventures, an Anthem Sports & Entertainment Company, will release Glimpse, a new film written and directed by Theresa Rebeck, May 6 in theaters and on-demand worldwide.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) hosted the 33rd Annual Producers Guild Awards on the evening of Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Fairmont Century Plaza. A full list of winners is below.

David Harbour and Bill Pullman will star in the world première of Theresa Rebeck’s dark and funny new play Mad House. Directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, the production opens on 26 June at the Ambassadors Theatre, with previews from 15 June, and runs until 4 September.

Ariana DeBose took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the recent film adaptation of West Side Story. The film also won in the Best Film Editing category.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards were held Sunday, Feb. 27 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The telecast aired on TNT and TBS. Among the big winners for the evening, taking home multiple awards, were CODA, Squid Game and Ted Lasso.

Madison Wells, producer of Company, Hadestown, Slave Play, and Inheritance on Broadway, will develop a film adaptation of STATE OF TERROR, written by former Secretary of State, U.S. Senator and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and New York Times best-selling novelist Louise Penny. Clinton and Penny will also serve as executive producers.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that playwright Arthur Giron passed away February 2, 2022. He co-wrote the Broadway musical Amazing Grace (2015) with Christopher Smith.
