Rent is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month! CBS This Morning chatted with Idina Menzel, one of the musical's original stars whose career kicked off thanks to Rent.

A quarter century ago, Jonathan Larson's groundbreaking musical, RENT, opened at New York Theatre Workshop. From its humble beginnings at NYTW, this rock musical went on to shape a generation. What began in the East Village traveled to Broadway, across the nation and around the world. While we await showtime, check out a trailer for the big event!

Directed by Alison Tanney (“The Theatre Enthusiast Podcast”), the live reading will star Tony Award winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia (Rent; La Cage Aux Folles) as Adam, Tony Award nominee Christiane Noll (Ragtime; Jekyll & Hyde) as Arlene, “One Life To Live” star David A. Gregory as Luke, Brandon Contreras (Almost Famous; In The Heights) as Brandon, Erin S. Leddy (Ghostlight; Crossroads) as Holly, and Rob Carroll (Black Mass) as Butch. 

New York Theatre Workshop announced today additional performers and presenters for the NYTW 2021 Annual Gala celebrating the Tony Award & Pulitzer Prize-winning musical RENT. The Gala will be held virtually on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at 8PM EST and will remain available to stream through March 6, 2021 at 8PM EST.

McCarter Theatre Center, Princeton University Health Services, The 24 Hour Plays and Innovations in Socially Distant Performance, a project of the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton, will launch The Manic Monologues, a digital theatrical experience to disrupt stigma around mental illness and spotlight a conversation about mental health.

Authentic Community Theatre in Hagerstown, MD plans on bringing in the New Year with a bang. Authentic Community Theatre (ACT) first announced August 1st, 2019 via a Facebook video that Wilson Jermaine Heredia (best known for being in the Original Broadway Cast of RENT and the 2005 film adaptation) would be joining their cast of West Side Story. The Tony Award winner came to ACT December 1, 2018 to teach a master class in conjunction with their production of RENT which took place in March 2019 at the historic Maryland Theatre to over 1500 people in just 2 nights.
