What did our critic think of THE RESERVOIR at Geffen Playhouse Gil Cates Theater? “Well, the Geffen sure knows their audience,” remarked my guest at the media preview of, THE RESERVOIR.  And I’d have to agree.  Between the spontaneous audience call backs, guffaws, tears, and chant-alongs that happened much in the second act, it’s probably safe to say, the show’s a hit.

Nice Girl is the West Coast premiere of a must-see new drama at Rogue Machine on Melrose through July 20th.  This is a quietly thoughtful, intimately compelling slice-of-life four person play I found incredibly poignant and moving.

After nearly a week of curtailment caused by political demonstrations, the City of Los Angeles has lifted the curfew in Downtown L.A., while easing restrictions on surrounding areas.

This production is erotic, evocative, lean as a bone and, at a certain point, leaves HAMLET behind entirely. Director Robert O'Hara (SLAVE PLAY, BARBECUE) cracks HAMLET open, exposes it to the sun and then keeps on probing.

*UPDATE* As of Monday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a reduction in curfew hours for parts of downtown LA. The curfew, previously more restrictive, will now run from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, specifically affecting areas at the heart of the city’s arts and cultural district.

Bacon is the West Coast premiere of a simmering new drama at Rogue Machine on Melrose running through March 30th.  Brawny, raw, savagely intimate, Bacon is a spare two-person play by Sophie Swithinbank that grabs us hard and never lets us go, even for a second.

The classic show is revived to hysterical effect with excellent directing, staging and acting

As embodied by Rainn Wilson and Aasif Mandvi in the revival of GODOT at the Geffen Playhouse, Vladimir and Estragon are a formidable pair. Beckett’s play about the unknowable darkness of the human condition has - go figure! - long been catnip for comedians, and you get why Wilson and Mandvi would want a whack at them.
