They'll tell the story of tonight becuase today, January 16, marks the birthday of legendary In the Heights and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. In honor of the ocassion, we're looking back at where the story of the ten-dollar founding father began: The Public Theater. An invitation-only staged reading of the new musical PopStar a?" featuring an original score by one of the music industry's leading songwriting teams a?" will take place at Ripley Grier, 305 W. 38th Street, on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18.

The McKittrick Hotel (530 West 27th Street, NYC), home of Sleep No More, announces a?oeThis House is Haunteda??, a special one-night concert evening starring Sydney James Harcourt, on Thursday, September 5th at 10:00 pm in the McKittrick's Manderley Bar (530 West 27th Street).

It's the top social event of the summer and one that people from all around the metro area attend with pleasure to enjoy food, a distinctive outdoor ambiance entertainment and good company. Diner en Blanc was held on Wednesday night, July 17 at the Nelson Rockefeller Park in Battery Park overlooking the Hudson River, the secret location that was disclosed to guests at the very last minute.

For the first time in the history of the legendary Diner en Blanc in the U.S., over 5,500 lucky guests will be treated to some heavyweight Broadway stars belting out theatre tunes when the hugely popular event returns to New York on July 17th.

The penultimate award show leading up to the Tony Awards is the Drama Desk Awards. It is a celebration of both Broadway and Off Broadway theater. In addition to the standard performance prizes for acting, music, sets, writing, and costumes, there are other categories like, Fight Coordinating, Hair and Wigs, Projections, and more. I fortunately got a chance to work the Red Carpet and the Press Room. I love working the Drama Desk Awards, because I get the chance to meet some of the new voices that are making interesting and innovative theater.

Deborah Grace Winer wraps up the second season of her Classic American Songbook Series at Feinstein's/54 Below on Sunday, June 16th  at 7:00pm and 9:30pm with FEELING WICKED: The Magical Side of the American Songbook featuring JENN GAMBATESE (School of Rock,) SYDNEY JAMES HARCOURT (Hamilton,) MATTHEW SCOTT (An American in Paris) and EMILY SKINNER (The Cher Show.)  Written and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer, and in time for Father's Day, this celebration of Broadway's love affair with the magical and miraculous is directed by Mark Waldrop, with an all-star trio led by Mark Hummel (musical director and piano), with Dick Sarpola on bass and Ray Marchica, percussion.

In the past few weeks, we've watched the nominations roll in. Today the final crop of nominees have been revealed, all leading to next week's ultimate announcement- the 2019 Tony nominations.

Last week I went to the Drama Desk Award Nominations Reception at Green Room 42, here in NYC.  This is one of the last few events where you get to meet some of the newest folks doing theater OFF Broadway and On Broadway.  You also get a chance to chat to some of the actors who are nominated for this year's Tony Awards, as well.

The 2019 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out last night to recipients in 19 categories, with one special award and three honorary awards also bestowed. The Lortel Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball Center hosted by Drama Desk Award-nominated writer and performer of The New One, Mike Birbiglia. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation. Additional support is provided by TDF.

The Public Theater's Mother of the Maid, written by Emmy Award winner Jane Anderson, officially opened last night, October 17. Directed by Emmy Award nominee Matthew Penn, the riveting new play was initially extended through Sunday, December 2 and has been extended a final three weeks through Sunday, December 23.

Bruce moves out, Bob moves in! The New York Post's Michael Riedel is reporting that Conor McPherson's musical Girl From The North Country is currently making moves toward Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre.

The Public Theater just opened the North American premiere of Girl from the North Country. Written and directed by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson with music and lyrics by music icon Bob Dylan, Girl from the North Country weaves the music of our greatest poet-singer-songwriter into a piercing drama about home, heart, and the searching determination of the American soul. This new musical has been extended three times and will now run through Sunday, December 23.

The Public Theater announced today a final two-week extension for the North American premiere of GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY.

Following a sold-out run at London's Old Vic and a West End transfer, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, from Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson and music icon Bob Dylan makes its North American premiere at The Public with an American cast this fall. Dylan's inimitable songbook is authentically transformed by McPherson into an achingly beautiful story of a down-on-its-luck community on the brink of change in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1934.
