An invitation-only reading of the new musical PopStar will take place on Thursday, October 20 (2pm) and Friday, October 21 (11am) at Pearl Studios (500 Eighth Avenue, Studio #1204). PopStar features a book by Martin Casella, music and lyrics by Jay Levine and Sophie Dupin and is conceived and directed by Sharon Rosen.

Commissioned by Alexander Hamilton in 1790, August 4th  marked the anniversary of the founding of the US Coast Guard.  To commemorate the occasion members of the Broadway musical Hamilton joined Capt. Matthew Meilstrup for a ride-in of the Cutter Eagle up the Hudson River.  

The New York Empire presented by Citi today unveiled a diverse star-studded lineup of National Anthem singers for its inaugural Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO season at the venerable Forest Hills Stadium at The West Side Tennis Club, the home of the US Open for over 60 years. The Empire season will open on Sunday, July 31, against the five-time defending champion Washington Kastles, with six total home dates on the schedule.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, two-time Tony Award nominee Brandon Victor Dixon, who continues his Tony nominated role in SHUFFLE ALONG through July 24, will begin performances mid-August (date TBA) as Aaron Burr in Hamilton on Broadway. Dixon takes over for Tony winner Leslie Odom Jr., who played his final performance on Saturday, July 9. 

The former, and perhaps future, first couple visit the Broadway smash just hours after Hillary Clinton's Saturday morning meeting with the FBI.

This season features an episode guest starring several cast members from the Broadway phenomenon HAMILTON including Jasmine Cephas Jones, Javier Muñoz, Sydney James Harcourt, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Daniel J. Watts, and Austin Smith.

Nominations for the 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, which honor outstanding dance and choreography on stage and screen, were announced just yesterday at the Friar's Club by New York Post columnist Michael Riedel. For the first time, the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards have explored recognizing excellence in dance, movement, and choreography off-Broadway. The starry lineup is complete for the 11th installment of the BROADWAY SINGS concert series, Broadway Sings Whitney Houston, in which a cast of 15 Broadway stars will sing completely new arrangements of the legendary diva's greatest hits, accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations. Joining the list of performers are Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple, 'Orange is the New Black'), Carly Hughes (Chicago), Mykal Kilgore (Book of Mormon, 'The Wiz Live!'), and Ciara Renee (Pippin, 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow').

This April, the BROADWAY SINGS concert series will present its 11th show with Broadway Sings Whitney Houston. A cast of 15 Broadway stars will sing completely new arrangements of the legendary diva's greatest hits, accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations. Previous artists honored in the series include Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Sara Bareilles, and Billy Joel.

Amas Musical Theatre and The Amas Song Salon will offer a special presentation with three rising Broadway talents -- Sydney James Harcourt (Hamilton), Doreen Montalvo (On Your Feet) and Timothy Ware (Kinky Boots) -- who will present musical highlights from their respective shows. The evening will be held on Monday, November 30 in a spectacular, sky-high location on West 57th Street.

The new musical Hamilton has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography 'Alexander Hamilton.' The Broadway community was a-buzz over the weekend with chatter about President Obama attending Saturday's matinee of HAMILTON.
