In recent years, Center for the Arts has certainly upped the ante with musical productions which have, consistently, been better than the one before, raising the bar for all the shows still to come. Case in point: Disney's Newsies, which closed its sold-out run in Murfreesboro on Sunday.

Following an exhilarating 2018-19 season, Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced the productions that will comprise its 2019-20 season. Highlights include the hilarious maritime musical, ANYTHING GOES; the satirical farce, IT'S ONLY A PLAY; the Tony Award-winning musical, NEWSIES; the Broadway sci-fi cult musical, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS; the sidesplitting play, LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR; and the critically-acclaimed musical, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. Hillbarn Theatre closes its season with the world premiere play THE FOUR GIFTS, based on the memoir of San Mateo local Fr. Joseph Bradley. All performances will be held at Hillbarn Theatre, (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd. Foster City). Subscriptions ($210 - $336) are on sale now at hillbarntheatre.org or by calling 650.349.6411. Christian Community Theater (CCT) was one of the first groups in the Greater Houston Area to obtain the rights and perform Disney's NEWSIES: The Broadway Musical. The production ran at the historic Crighton Theatre on August 17th - 19th & 23rd - 24th 2018, and it was so impressive that people are still talking about it.

This Friday, February 1st, Plaza Theatre Company opens DISNEY'S NEWSIES THE MUSICAL at PlazaCo's Dudley Hall location at 305 S. Anglin Street in Cleburne, TX opening on February 1st and playing thru March 2nd, 2019. The show will be the 126th produced by Plaza Theatre Company since its inception in November of 2006.

One of the silver screen's most popular musicals, Singin' in the Rain comes to the stage of Woodbury's Arts Center of Cannon County with all the trappings of a box office smash: memorable score, talented actors and enough technical razzle-dazzle to delight even the most discerning of theater-goers. Opening February 8 (and continuing through February 23) at ACCC, the stage musical stars Austin Jeffrey Smith, Lindsey Mapes Duggin and Daxton Patrick in the film roles immortalized by Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor in the award-winning 1952 film version.

Over MLK Weekend, students from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) traveled to New York City to study with Broadway professionals. FSPA Musical Theater students of all ages took Song Interpretation, Monologue, and Theater Dance classes with Broadway stars, casting directors, and agents, while FSPA Dance students took classes at the world-renowned Broadway Dance Center. This trip has been an annual offering for FSPA students since 2008.

Greenville Theatre's Executive Artistic Director Allen McCalla announced the theatre's name modification from GREENVILLE LITTLE THEATRE to GREENVILLE THEATRE on Saturday, January 19. This exciting announcement preceded the unveiling of the theatre's sensational 2019-2020 season. The line-up features 6 MainStage productions, including an impressive four musicals and two comedies. In addition to the MainStage productions, Greenville Theatre will produce two musicals in the cherished Theatre for Young Audiences Series, and will present three tribute shows in the popular Concert Series. A high energy line-up full of blockbusters sure to entertain all season long. 

The Grove Theatre is excited to announce the opening of Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical.  In 1899, New York City got its news from an army of ragged orphans and runaways called newsies. One of them, Jack Kelly, dreams of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. When newspaper owners raise distribution prices at the newsies' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and leads a young army toward responsibility in a combination of jaunty tunes and high-kicking, musical numbers.

Acclaimed Broadway performer Corey Cott and rising star Mikaela Bennett will headline Lyric Opera of Chicago's premiere of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking American musical West Side Story, presented from May 3 - June 2, 2019 at the Lyric Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago (press opening May 4, 2019).

DISNEY'S NEWSIES opens at Artisan Center Theater on Friday, January 4, 2019 and runs through Saturday, February 9, 2019. The 196 seat theater-in-the-round is located at 444 East Pipeline Road in Hurst. Performances are at 7:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with 3:00pm matinees on Saturdays beginning January 12. Reserved seating tickets are $28.00 for adults, $26.00 for students and seniors, and $16.00 for children 12 and under.  Monday through Thursday tickets are $26.00 for adults and $14.00 for children 12 and under. Graham Northrup, Theatre Aspen's Director of Education, announced the cast for the Winter Conservatory production of Disney's Newsies today. Students aged 12-18 will work with local professionals to produce this much-loved musical.
