Irish Repertory Theatre has announced a virtual performance of Brian Friel's Molly Sweeney. The first in a new series, A Performance on Screen, Molly Sweeney will be directed by Charlotte Moore (London Assurance) and will be streamed on Tuesday May 12 at 7pm, Wednesday May 13 at 3pm, Thursday May 14 at 7pm and Friday May 15 at 8pm.

The 2019 Origin's 1st Irish Theatre Festival, New York's all-Irish theatre festival and the world's only festival devoted exclusively to producing the plays of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, settles in to its new January time slot, running three weeks from January 9 to 28. A total 17 events, including six mainstage productions from Belfast, Derry, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Queens and Manhattan, will be seen in and out of competition. The Public Theater just opened the North American premiere of Girl from the North Country. Abbey Theatre and The Royal Court Theatre's co-production of CYPRUS AVENUE comes to The Public Theater, written by David Ireland and directed by Vicky Featherstone, featuring Stephen Rea as Eric. CYPRUS AVENUE just opened last night, June 25, and is currently running at The Public through Sunday, July 29.

The Tony and Olivier Award-winning Best Play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has set a new Broadway record for weekly ticket sales for a play, reporting a gross of $2,277,446 for the week ending June 17, 2018. This passes the high mark set by the two-part play in previews the week ending April 8, 2018 ($2,138,859) and the previous top grossing play, All The Way, which peaked at $1,623,495 in 2014.

Ahead of the 2018 Tony Awards this weekend, John Dickerson of the CBS This Morning podcast has an extended interview with two stars of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The two-part, five-hour play catches up with the beloved characters 19 years after the final book, as adults with children at Hogwarts. It is nominated for 10 Tony Awards.
