The Whalephant intertwines the story of two Massachusetts men, past and present: Moses Spouter, a famed and possibly unhinged Nantucket whaling captain; and his great-great grandson, Abe Spouter, day-drunk and proud and generally pissed, who captains a whale-watching boat off the coast of Cape Cod.  It's a play about history and family, cetaceans and shanties, and the search for self at sea.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater presents a critically acclaimed adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic story Jane Eyre in the Quadracci Powerhouse, beginning April 25 through May 21. Directed by KJ Sanchez (Harvey, The Diary of Anne Frank), Jane Eyre is a passionate romance meets thrilling psychological drama performed by ten actors playing more than 20 roles. The production combines Victorian-era costumes with inventive staging to bring new creativity and vitality to the classic story, considered one of the most widely read novels in the English language. Northern Manhattan's UP Theater Company announces details of its next production, Lost/Not Found by Washington Heights playwright, Kirby Fields (UP Theater's K Comma Joseph).

The Playwrights' Center today announced that Robert Chelimsky will join the organization as managing director, effective May 1, 2017. Chelimsky most recently served as managing director of Epic Theatre Ensemble in New York.

Epic Theatre Ensemble will present the second edition of its four-week Youth Theatre Festival: Epic YTF. Epic YTF, a celebration of a diverse and inclusive community, fighting for social justice and equality, showcases performances from the award-winning after-school program Epic REMIX.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the next production of its 37th Season, Pike St. by playwright Nilaja Sun, directed by Ron Russell.  Pike St. will run from March 27-April 23, 2017.

Each season, the Keen Playwrights Lab brings together three mid-career playwrights to develop new full-length plays inspired by Keen Company's mission. Under the leadership of Jeremy Stoller, Keen's Director of New Work, writers meet throughout the year to create new plays that provoke identification, reflection, and emotional connection. The Playwrights Lab culminates with a reading of each new play in the spring, attended by the Keen community, the theater industry, and the general public. Keen's fourth season of the Playwrights Lab will allow Julia Jordan, Andrea Thome and Stefanie Zadravec to develop new plays.

Epic Theatre Ensemble has been awarded a $175,000 grant for program development with an emphasis on diversity and expanding its workforce.

Daughters of Troy announces an expansion of their interdisciplinary project which began earlier this year at an artist residency on Governors Island. The one night performance of mostly new theatrical works-in-progress will take place at Dixon Place on November 21st at 7:30pm.
