Abrons Arts Center Sets 2015-16 Season of Theatre, Dance & More

On February 12, 1915, the Abrons Arts Center's Henry Street Settlement Playhouse opened its doors on the Lower East Side. Since that day, it has remained a vital cultural resource, providing audiences with artistically bold work while offering artists opportunities to dynamically grow. Since becoming Abrons Director in 2006, Jay Wegman has done much more than maintain 'one of the last standing locations for avant-garde performance downtown' (The New York Times, 2009). He has created an arts venue that is unique on the city's cultural landscape, presenting an international mix of cutting-edge performing and visual artists, both established and emerging, from across the country and around the world, as well as from New York City.

The New Detroit Public Theatre to Open This Fall

Two seasoned theatre professionals, one from New York and one a Detroit native, have joined forces to launch the Detroit Public Theatre (DPT). Detroit's newest performing arts institution will open in residence at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in October 2015. The inaugural season of Detroit Public Theatre opens with the Michigan Premiere of the dark comedy, American Hero by Bess Wohl, on October 30, 2015. The line up continues through May 2016 in the Robert A. and Maggie Allessee Rehearsal Hall at the Max with three more productions - including Dominique Morisseau's powerful and timely Detroit '67, and From Broadway to Obscurity, a musical journey by Eric Gutman, a homegrown artist and leading Broadway player.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's 14th New Works Festival Lineup Set

Continuing its commitment to developing new works, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will gather playwrights and composers from across the nation for its 2015 New Works Festival at Palo Alto's Lucie Stern Theatre, where the public can attend performances, offer feedback, and participate in a panel discussion with the artists. 

'FORUM,' 'WILD THINGS' & More Set for Two River Theater's 2015-16 Season

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces the lineup of productions for its 2015/16 Season. The season will launch in September with August Wilson's Seven Guitars, directed by Brandon J. Dirden and will include the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, directed by Jessica Stone; a new music-theater production of Shakespeare's Pericles created by Rinde Eckert and David Schweizer; and the Transport Group's critically acclaimed production of I Remember Mama, directed by Jack Cummings III.

TEENS ON BROADWAY Showcase Set for the Circle in the Square This Month

On Monday, May 18th at 7 p.m., performing arts high schools from four boroughs will present samples of their best work of the year at Circle in the Square Theatre. Book of Mormon cast member and Circle in the Square Theatre School alumnus Christian Dante White will welcome the performers and inspire them to keep their dream alive. This annual event is the centerpiece of Circle in the Square Theatre School's Teens on Broadway program.

New Jazz Musical FOR THE LAST TIME to Receive Industry Reading This Week

FOR THE LAST TIME is a new jazz musical by celebrated writer/composer Nancy Harrow (Maya The Bee, This Side of Paradise), directed by Will Pomerantz (The Blue Flower) with music direction by Cody Owen Stine, will get an invite-only industry reading on March 13, 2015.

PHILADELPHIA AND OTHER STORIES to Play Walkerspace, 2/11-21

Following a critically acclaimed, sold-out run at The Bushwick Starr, writer Paul Rome and composer Roarke Menzies present 'Philadelphia and Other Stories' at Walkerspace, Wednesdays - Saturdays, February 11-21 at 8pm.

Mandy Gonzalez Makes LA Concert Debut with LOVE, ALL WAYS This Week

Chris Isaacson Presents and Upright Cabaret have announced that native Angeleno and Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez will welcome the new year by coming home to make her Los Angeles solo concert debut. Directed by Eric Michael Gillett with musical direction by Brian J. Nash, there will be two shows: Tonight, January 27, and Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 8:30pm at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood.

59E59 Theaters and Strangemen & Co., in association with Robb Nanus and Rachel Sussman, present the return engagement of The Woodsman to 59E59 Theaters, Theater B (59 East 59 Street between Park and Madison Avenues). Directed by James Ortiz and Claire Karpen, with associate direction by Devin Dunne Cannon. The Woodsman begins performances tonight, January 13, 2015 and opens Sunday, January 18, 2015. The Woodsman will play a strictly limited engagement through Sunday, February 22, 2015. The exclusive 59E59 Member presale begins on Monday, December 1, 2014 and tickets will be on sale to the general public on Friday, December 5, 2014.

Between the national pride celebrated on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the oft overlooked commemoration of Executive Order 9066 to intern Japanese-Americans in the 1940s, Plays & Players presents two theatrical events that remind us of the struggles we have overcome and the steps yet to be taken: Voices of a People's History of the United States and Hold These Truths.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Extends PITBULLS

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that following strong reviews Pitbulls, written by Keith Josef Adkins and directed by Leah Gardiner, will extend one week through Saturday, December 20, at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, west of Seventh Avenue South. (Pitbulls had originally been scheduled to close on December 13.)

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that Pitbulls, written by Keith Josef Adkinsand directed by Leah Gardiner, will begin previews Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 8pm at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, west of Seventh Avenue South. Opening night is set for Thursday, November 20 at 8pm. Pitbulls plays through Saturday, December 13.
