BBC iPlayer is partnering with Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare's Globe - in releasing productions of some of Shakespeare's greatest works in a Culture in Quarantine special, which will be available for over three months.

Following the recent announcement of its Autumn 2020 Season, the Belgrade Theatre has now launched an online programme of activity to inspire and entertain its audiences during the lockdown period. 

After a hugely successful debut in 2018 at London's Old Vic Theatre and a subsequent UK tour, Emma Rice's highly theatrical adaptation of Angela Carter's Wise Children is a welcome and absurdist addition to the BBC's Culture in Quarantine series, filmed at York Theatre Royal in 2019.

Following a short run in Bristol at the beginning of the year, Wise Children's Romantics Anonymous was due to head across the Atlantic for an American tour a?' and their new tour of Malory Towers was also on the verge of opening in Cumbria. All their plans were thrown into disarray, however, when first America and then the UK started to close the theatres (the Romantics Anonymous set, as well as the sound and lighting equipment, is currently stranded in LA). To try and come to terms with this loss, to a?oestay sanea??, and to plug the gap during the shutdown, Emma Rice and the team have begun a series of livestream editions of the Wise Children podcast.

While venues across the UK have temporarily shut their doors in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Belgrade Theatre is already looking forward to an exciting new season, offering plenty to look forward to once the lockdown is over.

Wise Children today announce that Angela Carter's Wise Children, their critically-acclaimed co-production with The Old Vic, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Oxford Playhouse and York Theatre Royal, adapted and directed by Emma Rice, will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer from this weekend for 3 months as part of the BBC's Culture in Quarantine programme. In honour of International Women's Day, Bristol Old Vic is launching a series of interviews and stories centred on inspirational women from the theatre's past and present. The sound installation, titled Women of Bristol Old Vic, aims to bring the voices of women in theatre to the forefront of the industry and celebrate their achievements across theatrical history. The seven installations combine archive material, oral histories and locations across the theatre's foyer. These can be accessed through a QR code, which visitors can scan on their phones.

The National Theatre today announces nine productions that will play on the South Bank in 2020-2021 alongside previously announced shows. These run alongside our international touring productions, three plays that will tour to multiple venues across the UK and a West End transfer. A new musical adaptation of Enid Blyton's Malory Towers is heading to Storyhouse during Summer 2020.

David Pugh will present Emma Rice's critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Enid Blyton's Malory Towers, originally created with Wise Children. This new production will be co-produced with Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, where the production will open on 27 March 2020, before going on a national tour, concluding at Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall, where it will play from 27 July to 31 August, with national press performances on 31 July, 1 and 2 August.
