BroadwayWorld spoke to Pentabus Artistic Director Elle While about new show Driftwood, collaborating with ThickSkin, one of the most exciting parts of the scriptwriting process and the importance of rural theatre.

The full cast and creative team have been announced for Driftwood; an intoxicating and mystical new play by award-winning writer Tim Foley in a distinctive physical and cinematic production.

“To say the truth, reason and love keep little company together nowadays.” It appears that the Globe has a fondness for dreaming, as Shakespeare’s most performed play is back in the outdoor space for the third time in Michelle Terry’s tenure as Artistic Director.

Raw, brutal, twisted, and full of rich wordplay, this play makes its political points and highlights a relationship which uses regret, mistakes, and teasing to hide what is really happening at its core. It is less the star-crossed young lovers of Shakespeare than the smack-stained children of a modern wasteland.

When Pentabus Theatre approached me to write a play for them I knew instantly that I wanted to write a queer love story. Because the hetero-ghetto is wild right now, especially in the UK, it’s a very challenging time to be trans and queer. But the love is always louder than the fear, and I believe in the power of good theatre.

Today Pentabus announced their 2022 Season which features a new commission touring in the autumn, the return of Pentabus Young Writers live production and three new digital projects. 

The Belgrade Theatre will play host to a brand new stage adaptation of Private Peaceful, coming to its Main Stage from Tues 17 – Sat 21 May. The ensemble retelling of Michael Morpurgo's acclaimed novel is adapted for the stage by Simon Reade.

This season, the Belgrade Theatre hosts a fantastic range of shows for children of all ages. Little ones can take a stroll through the deep, dark wood with The Gruffalo, and enjoy magical puppetry with Oi Frog and Friends! Live on Stage. There's something for older ones too, with brand new stage adaptations of George Orwell's Animal Farm and Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful.

Today Nottingham Playhouse announces the full cast of Simon Reade's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's award winning First World War novel Private Peaceful.

Following the triumphant return of live work at Nottingham Playhouse this autumn, today the theatre confirms its Spring and Summer Season for 2022.  The season comprises a long-awaited programme of work that was postponed from 2020 due to the first COVID 19 lockdown.
