BWW Review: SOMETHING ROTTEN! at Broadway In Louisville

Something Rotten! roared into town this week. And judging from the high-energy opening night, audiences won't be lifting their noses at this hybrid Shakespeare/Musical production. The title itself is a quotation from one of Shakespeare's best-known plays and includes the ubiquitous use of exclamation points in titles of musicals. Additionally, this particular quote points to some of the plot points in the storyline.

BWW Review: SOMETHING ROTTEN! Bedazzles at the Fox Cities P.A.C.

SOMETHING ROTTEN! opened at Appleton's Fox Cities Performing Arts Center on October 23 and will continue to play through October 28. SOMETHING ROTTEN! offers laughs, entertaining dance numbers, and enough musical theater references to delight any fan.

BWW Review: Shakespeare Meets Musical Theater in SOMETHING ROTTEN! at The Marcus Center

A delightful, dazzling escape filled with corseted girls in golden tap shoes, The Bard on air guitar, and a big ol' wink to the audience before launching knowingly into any musical encore. If serious theater is your only joy, then you will find little of it here; playfulness and jokes made of delicious low-hanging fruit rule in 'Something Rotten.'

BWW Review: SOMETHING ROTTEN at Overture Center

There's nothing rotten about Something Rotten! When the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel (Matthew Michael Janisse and Richard Spitaletta) find out that their newest play about Richard II is in direct competition with another play about the same exact thing written and directed by rock star-status-achieving Shakespeare (Matthew Baker), they scrap the entire script and seek out a new idea.

Corkscrew Theater Festival presents delicacy of a puffin heart, written by Stefani Kuo and directed by Theo Maltz. Running July 25-August 5, delicacy of a puffin heart traces the stories of two pairs of immigrant/first generation women living in the same San Francisco apartment, twenty years apart: in the 1990s, a lesbian couple hoping to have a child, and in the present, their adult daughter living with her best friend. Both pairs of women struggle to maintain their intimate connection while facing mental and physical illness. Performed by Dominique Brillon, Diane Chen, Cleo Gray, Drita Kabashi, and O'mer Koren, delicacy of a puffin heart is the fourth production in the second annual season of Corkscrew Theater Festival, a new summer theater festival that provides early-career artists with a high level of production support.

BWW Review: DEATH BY DESIGN Done In By Deadly Pace

Playwright Rob Urbinati had a clever idea with DEATH BY DESIGN: Take the sophisticated and witty banter of the characters of Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde and drop them into the middle of an Agatha Christie murder mystery. In order for all of this to work, he wrote it as a farce. Edward Bennett (Bill Clausen), a playwright, and his actress wife, Sorel (Ashleigh Pedersen) have just had a disastrous opening night and they've escaped London to hunker down in their country digs, only to have their peace shattered by the arrival of one unexpected screwball guest after another. When one of the guests is murdered, the manor's maid is determined to solve the crime.
