In 2012, when Baldwin Wallace's number one nationally ranked musical theater program, in conjunction with Beck Center for the Arts, produced SPRING AWAKENING, my capsule judgement read: 'SPRING AWAKENING is an emotionally stirring, relevant, and well-staged production.'

It’s fun to see the broad influence of student theatre on our entire campus.  Spring Awakening, from Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, is in the middle of a four day virtual run at Baldwin Wallace University. 

Today, singer, songwriter, and composer Duncan Sheik released a cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees,” taken from his upcoming live album Live at the Cafe Carlyle (out December 4th via Sneaky Records / Missing Piece Records).

This fall, Baldwin Wallace University's top-rated music theatre program pulls off the ultimate COVID-hack with the first virtual college production of 'Spring Awakening,' the eight-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical created by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik. But this is no coronavirus-era, pared down, Zoom table reading. The groundbreaking show - shot guerilla film style on iPhones and at more than 40 locations throughout Northeast Ohio - begins streaming November 19.

While scrolling on Facebook one day, I came across a post from a theater offering a streamed production of Spring Awakening. As I am a hardcore fan of the show, my interest was piqued. Then, I saw a post from a person involved with the theater asking if anyone in the Philly area would provide a review. Given I haven't written a theater review in oh, let's say, eight months, to do so would give me a brief moment of normalcy.

Three Broadway performers, Justin Smith, Sean Driscoll and Pete Donovan, can be found belting out hits at Calissa in Water Mill every Thursday night from 7pm - 9pm, immersing the diners in a musical experience that's been dearly missed since the Great White Way turned its lights off.

Art inspires and heals. Lynn Ahrens’ Tony Award winning lyrics from the Broadway musical Ragtime have been running through my head ever since viewing a virtual performance of the show produced by Mad Factory Theatre Company in nearby Oberlin, OH.

Capitol City Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska recently opened a live-streamed production of Spring Awakening, now running through November 7th. Under the Artistic and Music Direction of Jamie Webb, with a livestream directed and produced by Michael Lecher, this talented cast of Lincoln locals rocks their way through this landmark musical of morality, sexuality, and rock and roll.
