Center Theatre Group is announcing panelists for 'L.A. Playwrights: Writing for a Changing World,' on Thursday, May 21 at 3 pm PT, including local writers Luis Alfaro, Bekah Brunstetter, Aleshea Harris, Molly Smith Metzler and Dominique Morisseau. They will be joined by one-time Los Angeles resident Jeremy O' Harris whose Broadway debut 'Slave Play' was recently announced as part of the upcoming season at the Mark Taper Forum.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater has announced today that it will stage the World Premiere musical The Notebook, based on the classic best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks that inspired the hugely popular film. The musical adaptation features music and lyrics by multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson with book by playwright Bekah Brunstetter-best known as a writer and producer on NBC's hit series This Is Us.

This February, the comedic musical, LIFE IN BOOBS arrives at Pico Playhouse for an exclusive, limited run. With Books & Lyrics by Casey Christensen (The Donkey Show), composed by celebrity vocal coach Rachael Lawrence (Grey's Anatomy, Glee), and conceived by Jennifer Goodman, the celebrated musical showcases true trials and tribulations of women everywhere, with original songs, comedic vignettes and dramatic monologues. LIFE IN BOOBS will run two nights only on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 at 8:00pm in west Los Angeles.

This February, Farmers Alley Theatre will present the West Michigan premiere of a delicious slice of American life, The Cake. Written by Bekah Brunstetter (writer and supervising producer of NBC's hit drama a?oeThis is Usa??), this ripped from the headlines story has been called a?oerefreshing and hearteninga?? by the Los Angeles Times. Directed by D. Terry Williams and starring Zoe Vonder Haar, The Cake runs February 7-23 at Farmers Alley Theatre, right in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo.

In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court handed a narrow victory to a Christian baker from Colorado who refused for religious reasons to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. Hailing from a conservative North Carolina background, playwright Bekah Brunstetter is personally familiar with people like Della, the protagonist of THE CAKE, and ideally positioned to protect her and defend her humanity, while also setting her on a path to self-reflection and change. Although the story may be ripped from the headlines, Brunstetter tells it from the perspectives of a quartet of ordinary, yet multi-faceted characters, each of whom comes with a strong set of beliefs.
