Artistry completes its 2021-2022 season with its production of SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar-Winning, DreamWorks animated film. Directed by local theater artist Angela Timberman, SHREK THE MUSICAL is summer fun and a celebration for the whole family - running July 15 - August 14, 2022. 

The Guthrie Theater today announced casting for William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, directed by former Artistic Director Joe Dowling, who returns to direct at the Guthrie for the first time since his tenure with the organization ended in 2015.

Little Women written by Louisa May Alcott, is perhaps known as one of the most formative literary works when it comes to young women. So, it may come as no surprise that it has been adapted countless times for the screen and stage, perhaps most notably the 2019 film directed by Greta Gerwig and the 2005 musical starring Sutton Foster in the star turning role of Jo March.

If the idea of an update to one of the world's most groundbreaking plays makes you dubious, because you think it will be a stodgy yawner or because you believe classics should not be messed with, or if you know little about Ibsen's most famous play, and so think you'll be too clueless to get this one, be reassured: the Jungle's production of A DOLL'S HOUSE PART 2 is both accessible and riveting.

Director Lavina Jadhwani had a clear intention underlying casting and concept in the Guthrie's current production of AS YOU LIKE IT: to enable audience members from many different heritages and sexualities to see themselves represented on stage. Her intent was fueled, in part, by her own memories of going to theater as a child, and loving it, but never seeing someone who looked like her on stage; she is of South Asian descent. This production is, in Jadhwani's words, meant to be "hereish and nowish" and is informed by a deliberately intersectional feminist lens.

Deep into the Minneapolis midwinter ice and snow, book a ticket for the Guthrie's As You Like It on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and travel to the forest. William Shakespeare's tribute to the delights and folly of love. Set in the Forest of Ardenne, the evening promises a brief respite to city life in this playful and complex comedy set in contemporary times under the debut Guthrie direction of Lavina Jadhwani.

This holiday season, the Jungle Theater presents THE WICKHAMS: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY, a companion to last year's wildly popular Miss Bennet - both continuations of Jane Austen's beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice. Starring Angela Timberman as the adored housekeeper Mrs. Reynolds, the play's action takes place in the cozy warmth of the Pemberley kitchen where the servants are bustling with holiday preparations. Directed by Christina Baldwin, this co-commission, co-world premiere (with Chicago's Northlight Theater and the Bay Area's Marin Theatre Company) runs December 1-30 at the Lyn-Lake neighborhood theater, located at 2951 Lyndale Ave. S. in Minneapolis.
