The hit musical Waitress is opening up once more this evening as Broadway continues its highly-anticipated return! To celebrate the return of live theatre at the Barrymore and beyond, New York Senator and Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, stopped in for a visit with the Waitress family.

Whether you're heading to Joe's Diner or way down under the ground, Broadway is re-opening up tonight with the arrival of two beloved musicals. Waitress kicks off its limited engagement at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre, where it will run through January 9, 2022. Just a block away, Hadestown returns to its home at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

After a year and a half without Broadway, Waitress fans will get a rare chance to revisit their favorite musical- they'll just have to travel across the street for it. A limited engagement begins performances at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre on September 2, where it will run through January 9, 2022. 

BroadwayWorld has learned that when Waitress returns to Broadway, the production will paying tribute to original cast member Nick Cordero, who passed away due to COVID early in the pandemic. On stage, there will be a pie on the diner’s chalkboard named the 'Live Your Life' pie, named for Cordero's song. 

Sara Bareilles, the Grammy Award-winning composer of Waitress, will star in the lead role of Jenna Hunterson September 2 through October 17. Learn more about the production and how to purchase tickets here!

Following a sold-out concert in 2017, stars from Broadway and the National Tours of WAITRESS came together to perform WAITRESS SINGS BAREILLES: VOL. 2 at The Green Room 42, in a concert benefitting The Hysterical Womxn's Society.

Katharine McPhee and Drew Gehling will host the show's hugely popular 'Cast Album Karaoke' program following the 7 PM performance on Monday, December 2nd at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). Interested audience members will be able to sign up before the performance for the chance to sing one minute of any song in the show accompanied by the onstage band led by musical director Nadia DiGiallonardo.

The producers of the hit musical, Waitress, announced today that Katharine McPhee will lead the company as Jenna for the final weeks of the Broadway run. Katharine McPhee returns to Waitress, where she made her Broadway debut last year. She subsequently made her West End debut in March 2019, reprising the role of Jenna for the show's UK premiere. Since vaulting to fame as a captivating singer on a?oeAmerican Idol,a?? Season 5, she's become a successful recording artist, landing numerous songs and albums on Billboard's pop, jazz, holiday and adult-contemporary charts. Her latest album of timeless American standards a?oeI Fall in Love Too Easilya?? was released by BMG in 2017. As an acclaimed actress, she was the breakout star of the 2013 NBC-TV musical series, a?oeSmash,a?? Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and starred in the hit CBS dramatic series a?oeScorpion.a??

Al Roker will return to the cast of Waitress as a?oeJoea?? from November 1st through November 24th. Al Roker made his Broadway debut in the role last year. Jordin Sparks will also extend her run as Jenna through November 24th.

Jordin Sparks begins performances as Jenna in Waitress tonight, Monday, September 16th for a limited engagement through October 27. This will mark her Broadway return after making her debut in 2010 in Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights.
