Now on tour, a new musical makes landfall at Olney Theatre Center with a fantastical song worthy of our attention

Islander, winner of Best New Musical at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and an off-Broadway hit, comes to Olney Theatre Center for three weeks of performances, April 11 - 28, 2024, on the Roberts Mainstage.

The Seattle Rep is certainly known for bringing in some rare gems over the years. I still geek out over shows like “The Brothers Size”, “An Iliad”, and of course “Come From Away”. And this season is kicking off brilliantly, in no small part to the shimmering, magical jewel currently playing, “Islander”.

Seattle Rep has announced the cast and creative team behind Islander, an intimately staged new musical with a contemporary Scottish folk-inspired score. In Islander, two actors embody 25+ characters while weaving, building, and layering their voices using live looping technology.

Continuing their reign of theatrical firsts, Leeds Conservatoire's BA Acting and Actor Musician programmes has announced the regional premiere of The Coup Coup Club, a political musical cabaret set in the heart of Argentina's Dirty War.

Lea Salonga visited the island on Friday night when she attended a performance of the musical ISLANDER at off-Broadway’s Playhouse 46 at St Lukes to see the show before it closes its limited engagement on June 13th. 

The acclaimed production of Islander will have its final performance on Monday, June 13, 2022.

Last night, the performance of the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical Islander at Playhouse 46 at St. Luke’s ended with a surprise for understudy Mia Munn. Following the curtain call of the show, Associate and Resident Director Victor Lirio appeared on stage for the presentation.

The acclaimed UK production of Islander will arrive in New York and play the new PLAYHOUSE 46 at St. Luke's (308 West 46th Street) with performances beginning on April 14 in advance of an April 21 opening night.

Details have been announced for the spring season, running from January to May 2022, as well as the appointment of two new Playwrights in Residence.

The season also includes a long-awaited return of such critically acclaimed shows as Antigone, Interrupted which will see Scottish Dance Theatre touring for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, and TuTuMucky, a smash hit from Botis Seva blending hip hop, ballet and contemporary dance.

Dundee Rep in collaboration with Eden Court Highlands presents the filmed reimagining of Islander, the award-winning two-hander folk theatre musical conceived and directed by Amy Draper with music and lyrics by St Andrews-born writer and composer Finn Anderson and book by Stewart Melton.

Theatre Elision is thrilled to return in July with the U.S. premiere of the new musical, Islander! Conceived by Amy Draper, with Music and Lyrics by Finn Anderson and Book by Stewart Melton. Islander was first produced in the U.K. by Helen Milne Productions.
