When you think of country music icon Dolly Parton, passion, storytelling and female empowerment spring to mind. Her musical 9 to 5 ticks all those boxes. Following the plot of the 1980 film of the same name, Dolly Parton again teamed up with the film's writers Patricia Resnick and Colin Higgins to bring the musical to Broadway in 2009.

With an Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score by the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton, and a book by the iconic movie's original screenwriter Patricia Resnick, this hilarious new production is about teaming up, standing up and taking care of business!

Known to audiences for her roles in Casualty and Emmerdale, Chelsea Halfpenny has recently taken on the role of Judy Bernly in Dolly Parton's feel-good musical, 9 to 5, replacing Amber Davies.  BroadwayWorld sat down with Chelsea to talk about joining the show, Dolly Parton's music and her theatre idols. 

Dolly Parton's iconic song, 9 to 5, is so recognisable from the first few notes so what better way to open her musical comedy stage adaptation. Based on the 1980 film of the same name, 9 to 5 enjoyed a successful - whilst short-lived a?' run on Broadway in 2009, following its try-out season in Los Angeles. It received a record number of Drama Desk nominations and although the critics gave it a lukewarm reception, the audiences adored the show.

The producers of 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL announced today that Chelsea Halfpenny will play the role of 'Judy Bernly' at the Savoy Theatre from Tuesday 27 August. Chelsea will play the role from 27 to 29 August and will be full time in the role from Tuesday 2 September.

The producers of 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL today announced the full cast for the second production when it embarks on an 11-city tour of the UK and Ireland from 6 September 2019. Directed by Jeff Calhoun, with a book by Patricia Resnick who wrote the hit movie and music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.

The celebrity judges for West End Eurovision 2019 are today revealed as Amber Davies (2017 winner of ITV's 'Love Island' and currently playing Judy Bernly in '9 to 5' at the Savoy Theatre); Bonnie Langford (star of West End, television, film, radio and music, currently playing Roz in '9 to 5' at the Savoy Theatre), Wayne Sleep, OBE (dancer, choreographer, director and actor) and Tim Vincent ('Blue Peter' legend, actor and presenter).

Louise Redknapp re-joins the cast of 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL in the role of 'Violet Newstead' at the Savoy Theatre, London from tonight, Monday 25 March until 29 June 2019. 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL opened in the West End last month, where Dolly Parton attended the premiere and joined the cast on stage at the finale. The show is booking at the Savoy Theatre until 31 August 2019.

Following the huge success of 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, the producers of the show are delighted to announce that a second production of the hit musical will play 11 cities throughout the UK and Ireland, opening at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham on 6 September 2019, before visiting Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Glasgow, Woking, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Dublin.
