My El Capitan experience began in its lobby with a photo opp and a display of the costume of the main two pairs of lovers of West Side Story. As you enter the theatre auditorium, American Theater Organ Society’s Organist of the Year Rob Richards (bedecked in rhinestone shoes) wields his organ prowess on the El Capitan’s Wurlitzer pipe organ. Sounding like a fully synthesized band, Richards plays movie themes and songs familiar to most.

As a kid growing up in Los Angeles, the greatest movie town in the country (if not the world), I remember how special it was to attend Saturday movie matinees with my cousins in the late 50s and early 60s. But it was not until I attended the special Dapper Opening Night Fan Event on Thursday, December 9th just prior to the December 10th opening of WEST SIDE STORY at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood that those childhood memories were rekindled, thanks to the magical retro world created not only within the theater but the neighborhood itself.

The El Capitan Theatre puts a spotlight on its historic Mighty Wurlitzer Organ and its award winning house organist with a special concert by Rob Richards, TO DISNEY WITH LOVE, celebrating his twentieth anniversary as the El Capitan Theatre's house organist.  Richards has played this spectacular instrument at the landmark Hollywood movie palace since its installation in 1999.

John O'Hurley Joins the Cast of THE FANTASTICKS 12/12 Through 1/1

John O'Hurley, the New York Times Best Selling Author and Screen Actor's Guild Award Winner for his role as J. Peterman on 'Seinfeld,' the #1 syndicated television show in the world is headed to Off Broadway's Jerry Orbach Theatre at the Theatre Center, joining the cast of the longest running musical in the world, THE FANTASTICKS this holiday season. Peter Reckell, the Emmy nominated actor best known for playing Bo Brady, a role he originated in 1981 on the NBC drama Days of Our Lives, will take on the role of the suave and charismatic El Gallo when he joins the cast of the long running musical THE FANTASTICKS in a limited engagement that begins on September 5th and runs through September 25th the show's producers, Al Parinello and Catherine Russell announced today. This isn't the first time the he's performed in the show. Mr. Reckell played the role of The Mute (and covered The Boy) 35 years ago, in the Sullivan Street Production.
